Description:   Signal-recognition-particle assembly has a crucial role in targeting secretory proteins to the rough endoplasmic reticulum membrane. SRP68 binds the 7S RNA, SRP72 binds to this complex subsequently. This ribonucleoprotein complex might interact directly with the docking protein in the ER membrane and possibly participate in the elongation arrest function.

Description:   The ABL1 protooncogene encodes a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein tyrosine kinase that has been implicated in processes of cell differentiation, cell division, cell adhesion, and stress response. Activity of c-Abl protein is negatively regulated by its SH3 domain, and deletion of the SH3 domain turns ABL1 into an oncogene. The t(9;22) translocation results in the head-to-tail fusion of the BCR (MIM:151410) and ABL1 genes present in many cases of chronic myelogeneous leukemia. The DNA-binding activity of the ubiquitously expressed ABL1 tyrosine kinase is regulated by CDC2-mediated phosphorylation, suggesting a cell cycle function for ABL1. The ABL1 gene is expressed as either a 6- or 7-kb mRNA transcript, with alternatively spliced first exons spliced to the common exons 2-11. [provided by RefSeq].

Description:   DERP6, is a 316 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm and exists as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms. Expressed ubiquitously with highest expression in liver, heart, testis, brain and skeletal muscle, DERP6 is thought to be involved in p53-mediated transcriptional regulation. The gene encoding DERP6 maps to human chromosome 17, which comprises over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes over 1,200 genes. Two key tumor suppressor genes are associated with chromosome 17, namely, p53 and BRCA1. Tumor suppressor p53 is necessary for maintenance of cellular genetic integrity by moderating cell fate through DNA repair versus cell death. Malfunction or loss of p53 expression is associated with malignant cell growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Like p53, BRCA1 is directly involved in DNA repair, though specifically it is recognized as a genetic determinant of early onset breast cancer and predisposition to cancers of the ovary, colon, prostate gland and fallopian tubes.

Description:   This gene encodes a cell surface receptor and transmembrane precursor protein that is cleaved by secretases to form a number of peptides. Some of these peptides are secreted and can bind to the acetyltransferase complex APBB1/TIP60 to promote transcriptional activation, while others form the protein basis of the amyloid plaques found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer disease. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease and cerebroarterial amyloidosis (cerebral amyloid angiopathy). Multiple transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description:   IGSF3, also known as V8 or EWI-3, is a 1,214 amino acid protein. Widely expressed with predominant expression in kidney, placenta and lung, IGSF3 localises to the membrane and contains an N-terminal signal peptide, eight immunoglobulin (Ig) domains and a transmembrane segment. IGSF3 exhibits strong sequence and structural similarity to CD101 (32% identity), a leukocyte surface protein with seven Ig domains that is believed to play a role in T-cell activation. Despite the structural similarities between IGSF3 and CD101, IGSF3 is not expressed in peripheral blood lymphocytes and does not appear to participate in an immune function. Based on its subcellular localisation and the presence of the eight Ig domains, IGSF3 is hypothesised to function as a surface receptor or as a cell adhesion molecule.

Description:   A crucial regulator of chromatin dynamics and DNA transcription is the covalent modification and methylation of histones. Generally, methylation of certain lysine residues on Histone H3 and Histone H4 can be associated with transcriptionally active or inactive chromatin. This regulation has profound effects on the expression of genes and is part of an epigenetic memory network that determines cell fate. JMJD7 (Jumonji domain-containing protein 7) is a member of a family of JMJC domain-containing histone demethylases that are directly involved in removing methyl residues from distinct and unique lysine residues. These actions are implicated in gene expression and the regulation of cell senescence. JMJC domain-containing histone demethylases are also likely involved in development via their ability to regulate gene expression. JMJD7 contains one JMJC domain and was originally thought to be an alternatively spliced isoform of PLA2G4B.
