Human peripheral blood M1 macrophages are derived from purified monocytes. CD14<sup>+</sup> monocytes were isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) using positive immunomagnetic cell separation procedures and were cultured in the presence of GM-CSF for 10 days. The M1 phenotyping was confirmed by morphology and the expression of specific biomarkers.
