De<i> Geobacillus stearothermophilus</i> sporensuspensie wordt gebruikt in combinatie met de testagar voor het uitvoeren van de test op antibiotische sulfonamide-residuen volgens Kundrat, art.nr. 1.10662. De test detecteert antimicrobiële residuen zoals antibiotica, sulfonamiden en andere chemotherapeutische producten in vlees en andere voedingsmiddelen van dierlijke oorsprong. Het betreft een kwalitatieve routineprocedure. De test is gebaseerd op agardiffusie, en maakt gebruik van sporen van <i>Geobacillus stearothermophilus</i> als testorganisme. Antibiotische residuen en sulfonamide-residuen belemmeren de groei van het testorganisme. Reinigingsmiddelen, desinfectanten en bewaarmedia zijn niet van invloed op de test.

Microbiological laboratories need a simple procedure to maintain important microorganisms rather than repetitive sub-culturing, which results in contaminated cultures, loss of viability and, even more importantly, loss of original characteristics by introducing biochemical and genetic changes. Cryoinstant consists of 25 porous beads in a vial filled with a broth containing glycerol. Microorganisms will bind to the porous surface of the beads. The excess broth is aspirated, and the vials stored at temperatures down to –70 °C in a freezer.

Als gevolg hiervan is het sterftecijfer bij geïnfecteerde personen hoog, ondanks het relatief lage aantal gevallen over de hele wereld. Listeria-infecties (listeriosis) kunnen leiden tot allerlei aandoeningen, van milde gastro-enteritis tot ernstige gevallen van sepsis, meningitis, encefalitis of abortus. Dankzij de alomtegenwoordige verspreiding van <i>Listeria</i> en het vermogen om te groeien bij koelingstemperaturen ( 2-8 °C), vormen voedingsmiddelen een van de belangrijkste oorzaken van infectie. Listeria is een genus van Gram-positieve, niet-sporevormende, staafvormige bacterie. Van de zes bekende species van de genus Listeria, verdient Listeria monocytogenes een bijzondere vermelding als menselijk en dierlijk pathogeen. Als gevolg daarvan zijn in de voedselwetgeving in veel landen strikte beperkingen voor Listeria spp. of <i>Listeria monocytogenes</i> opgelegd. Bij het uitvoeren van risicogerelateerde kwaliteitscontroles in voedingsmiddelen, moeten tests worden uitgevoerd voor L. monocytogenes en voor de Listeria-genus in het algemeen. De aanwezigheid van Listeria - met name van<i> L. innocua</i> - geeft een indicatie voor kritieke hygiënische omstandigheden in het productieproces. Innovatieve, snelle tests maken screening voor pathogene organismen eenvoudiger. Het één-staps-formaat vermindert de kans op fouten tijdens verwerking.

Campylobacteriosis is een infectie veroorzaakt door Campylobacter, meestal C. jejuni. Het veroorzaakt een inflammatoire, soms bloederige diarree of dysenterie, gepaard gaand met kramp, koorts en buikpijn. De slopende neurologische aandoening, Guillain-Barre-syndroom (GBS), en reactieve artritis zijn ook in verband gebracht met recente infecties met<i> bepaalde C. jejuni-stammen. C. lari </i>en het opkomende pathogeen,<i> C. upsaliensis</i>, zijn eveneens gerapporteerd in een klein percentage gevallen van Campylobacter-infectie bij mensen.<i> Campylobacter spp.</i> zijn zeer besmettelijk - slechts 500 bacteriën kunnen ziekte veroorzaken. Er is een toenemende vraag naar Campylobacter-tests voor voedingsmiddelen om te voldoen aan de voorschriften met betrekking tot Campylobacter-niveaus in pluimvee. De meeste Campylobacter spp. zijn metabool relatief inactief, waardoor identificatie op basis van biochemische kenmerken moeilijk is. Op dit moment zijn de meest gebruikte technieken voor het testen van voedingsmiddelen op Campylobacter, traditionele methoden op basis van voedingsbodems. Innovatieve, snelle tests maken screening voor pathogene organismen eenvoudiger. Het één-staps-formaat vermindert de kans op fouten tijdens hantering.
