Protocadherins are a large family of cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins that are involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal connections in the brain. There are three protocadherin gene clusters, designated alpha, beta and gamma, all of which contain multiple tandemly arranged genes. PCDHB4 (Protocadherin beta-4) is a 795 amino acid single pass transmembrane protein that is one of 16 proteins in the protocadherin beta cluster. Unlike the alpha and gamma gene clusters whose genes are spliced to downstream constant region exons during transcription, members of the beta cluster (such as PCDHB4) do not use constant-region exons to produce mRNAs. As a result, each protocadherin beta gene encodes the transmembrane, extracellular and short cytoplasmic domains of the protein. PCDHB4 is likely a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein that is involved in the maintenance of neural connections in the brain.

DNA consists of two long nucleotide polymers, which are composed of four bases, namely adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine, all of which are flanked by a phosphate-deoxyribose backbone. Normally, DNA exists as a double-stranded (ds) molecule that forms in the shape of a double helix, allowing the bases and the backbone of the two strands to interact, thus forming a polynucleotide. When the double helix is unwound (either by enzymes or heat), DNA exists as a single-stranded (ss) molecule that is less stable than the double helix, but is necessary for protein access to DNA bases. Double stranded DNA markers are useful tools in biology research and aid in the study of DNA behavior and characteristics.

Lorsqu'un sachet AnaeroGen est placé dans un récipient étanche, l'oxygène atmosphérique dans le récipient est rapidement absorbé et du dioxyde de carbone est généré simultanément. Cette nouvelle méthode se distingue des autres méthodes couramment utilisées par le fait que la réaction se produit sans dégagement d'hydrogène et ne nécessite donc pas de catalyseur. En outre, l'eau n'est pas nécessaire pour activer la réaction. Lorsqu'il est utilisé selon les instructions, le sachet AnaeroGen permet de réduire le niveau d'oxygène dans le récipient à moins de 1% en 30 minutes. Le niveau de dioxyde de carbone qui en résulte est compris entre 9% et 13%.
