Description:   Neuroglycan C is a brain-specific chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan (CSPG) implicated in the proliferation of neural stem and progenitor cells. Neuro-glycan C is a single-pass membrane protein that can manifest as a part-time proteoglycan depending on the tissue expressing it. In its proteoglycan form, Neuroglycan C exhibits chondroitin sulfate glycans and functions as a receptor for midkine, a growth factor that binds heparin, to affect cytoskeletal changes. By means of ectodomain shedding, the ectodomain of Neuroglycan C is able to enhance neurite outgrowth from neurons. Neurite growth stimulation is affected by both an EGF-like and an acidic amino acid domain found on the shed ectodomain. Both domains instigate neurite growth, however, these domains exhibit differing functionality as to number of neurites produced and neuron types stimulated.

Description:   The epitope of this MAb maps in between aa 1-34. PTH is a hormone produced by the parathyroid gland that regulates the concentration of calcium and phosphorus in extracellular fluid. This hormone elevates blood Ca2 levels by dissolving the salts in bone and preventing their renal excretion. It is produced in the parathyroid gland as an 84 amino acid single chain polypeptide. It can also be secreted as N-terminal truncated fragments or C-terminal fragments after intracellular degradation, as in case of hypercalcemia. Defects in this gene are a cause of familial isolated hypoparathyroidism (FIH); also called autosomal dominant hypoparathyroidism or autosomal dominant hypocalcemia. FIH is characterized by hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia due to inadequate secretion of parathyroid hormone. Symptoms are seizures, tetany and cramps. FIH exist both as autosomal dominant and recessive forms of hypoparathyroidism.

Description:   Recognizes a single chain glycoprotein of 105/120 kDa, identified as CD30/Ki-1. CD30 is synthesized as a 90 kDa precursor, which is processed in the Golgi complex into a membrane-bound phosphorylated mature 105/120 kDa glycoprotein. In Hodgkin's disease, CD30/Ki-1 antigen is expressed by mononuclear-Hodgkin and multinucleated Reed-Sternberg cells. It is also expressed by the tumor cells of a majority of anaplastic large cell lymphomas as well as by a varying proportion of activated T and B cells. This MAb distinguishes large cell lymphomas derived from activated lymphoid cells from histiocytic malignancies and lymphomas derived from resting and precursor lymphoid cells or from anaplastic carcinomas. About one third of the Ki-1 positive lymphomas lack the leukocyte common antigen (CD45).

Description:   This gene is a member of the type II keratin family clustered on the long arm of chromosome 12. Type I and type II keratins heteropolymerize to form intermediate-sized filaments in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells. The product of this gene typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form an intermediate filament in simple single-layered epithelial cells. This protein plays a role in maintaining cellular structural integrity and also functions in signal transduction and cellular differentiation. Mutations in this gene cause cryptogenic cirrhosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.

Description:   The UNC5H family of proteins act as transmembrane receptors for netrin-1 and play a crucial role in axon guidance and migration of neural cells. Additionally, when cleaved by a caspase to produce an intracellular fragment containing a death domain,UNC5H receptors induce apoptosis. This activity is blocked by the binding of netrin-1. In the absence of netrin-1, UNC5H receptors act as tumor suppressors by inhibiting anchorage-independent growth and invasion, but mutation of these receptors provides a potential mechanism for tumorigenicity. The expression of UNC5H receptors is down-regulated in multiple carcinomas, including colorectal, breast, ovary, uterus, stomach, lung, and kidney cancers. UNC5H4, also known as UNC5D (unc-5 homolog D), is single-pass type I membrane protein that is a member of the UNC5H netrin receptor family. Two isoforms of UNC5H4 exist due to alternative splicing events.

Description:   The UDP-N-acetyl-alpha-D-galactosamine:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase (GalNAc-T) family of enzymes are substrate-specific proteins that catalyze the transfer of GalNAc (N-acetylgalactosaminyl) to serine and threonine residues of various proteins, thereby initiating mucin-type O-linked glycosylation in the Golgi apparatus. GalNAc-T10 (Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 10), also known as UDP-GalNAc:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 10, is a 603 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that prefers Muc5Ac and EA2 peptide substrates. The N-terminal domain is involved in substrate binding and manganese coordination, while the C-terminal domain is involved in UDP-Gal binding and catalytic reaction. GalNAc-T10 is widely expressed, with highest levels found in small intestine. There are four isoforms of GalNAc-T10 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:   HCV is classified into the genus Hepacivirus of the family Flaviviridae. Like all the members of the family, HCV is an enveloped, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA virus. Its genome (about 9600 nt) is flanked at both termini by conserved, highly structured non-translated regions (NTRs) and encodes a polyprotein precursor (about 3000 aa), which is proteolytically processed by host and viral proteases to produce the structural (core, E1, E2 and p7) and non-structural (NS2, NS3, NS4A, NS4B, NS5A and NS5B) proteins of the virus. Recently, an additional protein has been identified, whose function remains unknown. NS5A is a ~56 kDa pleiotropic protein with key roles in both viral RNA replication and modulation of the physiology of the host cell. It's exact role is not currently known (2008).

Description:   CatSpers (cation channel, sperm associated proteins) are ion transport proteins located on the surface of sperm cells in the principal piece of the sperm tail. CatSpers are vital to sperm motility, fertilization and cAMP-mediated calcium influx in sperm. There are four CatSper proteins in mammalian sperm, namely CatSper (or CatSper1), CatSper2, CatSper3 and CatSper4. CatSper proteins contain a single, six-transmembrane-spanning segment and exhibit the voltage-dependent Ca2+ channel four-repeat structure. CatSper proteins are believed to assemble into a heterotetrameric complex, forming an alkalinization-activated Ca2+-selective channel. Mutations in any of the genes encoding CatSper family proteins can result in male infertility. CatSper3 plays an important role in the hyperactivated motility of sperm cells, a process that is required in the preparation of sperm for fertilization.

Description:   OSTM1 (osteopetrosis associated transmembrane protein 1), also known as gl (gray-lethal) or HSPC019, is a 338 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that is expressed primarily in osteoclasts and melanocytes as well as brain, kidney and spleen. Bone autosomal recessive osteopetrosis (ARO) is the most severe form of hereditary bone disease whose cellular basis is in the osteoclast and is characterized by abnormally dense bone, due to defective resorption of immature bone. ARO is suggested to be caused by mutations in the OSTM1 gene. The disorder occurs in two forms: a severe autosomal recessive form occurring in utero, infancy, or childhood, and a benign autosomal dominant form occurring in adolescence or adulthood. Defects in the OSTM1 gene are also the cause of the spontaneous gl mutant, which is responsible for a coat color defect in mice.

Description:   Hemostasis following tissue injury involves the deployment of essential plasma procoagulants (prothrombin, and factors X, IX, V, and VIII), which are involved in a blood coagulation cascade that leads to the formation of insoluble fibrin clots and the promotion of platelet aggregation (1-3). Coagulation factor IX (plasma thromboplastic component, F9, F.IX, HEMB) is a vitamin K-dependent, single chain serine protease that is synthesized in the liver and circulates as an inactive precursor (3,4). Factor XIa mediated proteolytic cleavage of factor IX generates factor IXa, an active serine protease composed of a 145 amino acid light chain and a 236 amino acid catalytic heavy chain, linked through disulfide bonds (5). Genetic alterations at the Factor IX locus such as point mutations, insertions and deletions, can lead to hemophilia B, also known as Christmas disease (6).

Description:   The nuclear pore complex (NPC) mediates bidirectional macromolecular traffic between the nucleus and cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells and is comprised of more than 100 different subunits. Many of the subunits belong to a family called nucleoporins (Nups), which are characterized by the presence of O-linked-N-acetylglucosamine moieties and a distinctive pentapeptide repeat (XFXFG). gp210, also known as Nup210 (nucleoporin 210kDa) or POM210, is a 1,887 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that localizes to both the endoplasmic reticulum and to the nucleus, specifically within the NPC. Expressed ubiquitously with highest expression in pancreas, testis, lung, ovary and liver, gp210 functions as a nucleoporin that is capable of dimerization and is essential for the assembly, fusion and structural integrity of the NPC. gp210 exists as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms and is subject to post-translational phosphorylation.
