Recognizes a 60 kDa protein, identified as the heat shock protein 60 (hsp60). A wide variety of environmental and pathophysiological stressful conditions trigger the synthesis of a family of proteins known as heat shock proteins (hsp), more appropriately called as stress response proteins (srp). Hsp60 is a potential antigen in a number of autoimmune diseases. In human arthritis and in experimentally induced arthritis in animals, disease development coincides with the development of immune reactivity directed against not only bacterial hsp60, but also against its mammalian homolog. Clone GROEL730 reacts only with human and is useful in distinguishing human hsp60 from other mammalian and bacterial hsp60.

The most common feature of these malignancies is the restricted expression of a single heavy chain class. This antibody recognizes a protein of 66 kDa-170 kDa, identified as involucrin. In Western blotting of cultured human keratinocytes, this MAb reacts with a 120 kDa protein. Involucrin is expressed in a range of stratified squamous epithelia, including the cornea, which lacks a distinct cornified layer. In normal epidermis, it is first expressed in the upper spinous layers, and in keratinocyte cultures, all cells that have left the basal layer express it. Involucrin expression is altered in pathological conditions: in psoriasis and other benign epidermal hyperplasias, involucrin expression begins closer to the basal layer than normal; expression is abnormal in squamous cell carcinomas and premalignant lesions, and is reduced in severe dysplasias of the larynx and cervix.
