Description:
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. ZNF346 (Zinc finger protein 346), also known as JAZ (Just another zinc finger protein), is a 294 amino acid protein that contains four matrin-type zinc fingers. The matrin-type zinc finger, which is very similar in structure to the classical DNA-binding C2H2 zinc finger, was first identified in the protein matrin-3. The matrin-type zinc finger has also been identified in several spliceosome RNA-binding proteins. Two isoforms exists due to alternate splicing events.

Description:
Glycosyltransferases that mediate the regio- and stereoselective transfer of sugars, such as the fucosyltransferases, determine cell surface-carbohydrate profiles, which are essential interfaces for biological recognition processes. Fucosyltransferases (FucTs) catalyze the covalent association of fucose to different positional linkages on sugar acceptor molecules. The carbohydrate moieties that are generated are covalently attached to cell surfaces and are necessary to ensure a surface contour that satisfies a variety of physiological roles. FucT-XI is a 492 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to the glycosyltransferase 10 family. Localizing to Golgi apparatus, FucT-XI may act as a fucosyltransferase and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding FucT-XI maps to mouse chromosome 14 A3.

Description:
The DAZ (Deleted in AZoospermia) gene family encodes potential RNA binding proteins that are expressed in prenatal and postnatal germ cells of males and females. The protein encoded by this gene is localized to the nucleus and cytoplasm of fetal germ cells and to the cytoplasm of developing oocytes. In the testis, this protein is localized to the nucleus of spermatogonia but relocates to the cytoplasm during meiosis where it persists in spermatids and spermatozoa. Transposition and amplification of this autosomal gene during primate evolution gave rise to the DAZ gene cluster on the Y chromosome. Mutations in this gene have been linked to severe spermatogenic failure and infertility in males. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Description:
This reference sequence was derived from multiple replicate ESTs and validated by similar human genomic sequence. This gene encodes a member of a family of small membrane proteins that share a 35-amino acid signature sequence domain, beginning with the sequence PFXYD and containing 7 invariant and 6 highly conserved amino acids. The approved human gene nomenclature for the family is FXYD-domain containing ion transport regulator. Transmembrane topology has been established for two family members (FXYD1 and FXYD2), with the N-terminus extracellular and the C-terminus on the cytoplasmic side of the membrane. FXYD2, also known as the gamma subunit of the Na,K-ATPase, regulates the properties of that enzyme. FXYD1 (phospholemman), FXYD2 (gamma), FXYD3 (MAT-8), FXYD4 (CHIF), and FXYD5 (RIC) have been shown to induce channel activity in experimental expression systems. This gene product, FXYD7, is novel and has not been characterized as a protein. [RefSeq curation by Kathleen J. Sweadner, Ph.D., sweadner@helix.mgh.harvard.edu., Dec 2000].

Description:
RTF1 is the the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in the rat which contains genes that code for two class II histocompatibility antigens. RT1-B is an antigen of the RT1 complex. It is a protein dimer consisting of an alpha and beta glycoprotein chain and is homologous to I-A and I-E genes, respectively, in the H-2 complex of the mouse. MHC Class II antigens are useful in studying T helper cell interaction with class II positive antigen presenting cells (dendritic cells, B cells, macrophages) and offer new possibilities for studying the development of T helper cells since these also stain stromal cells in the thymus.
