The gene encoding CCDC36 maps to human chromosome 3, which houses over 1,100 genes, including a chemokine receptor (CKR) gene cluster and a variety of human cancer-related gene loci. Key tumor suppressing genes on chromosome 3 include those that encode the apoptosis mediator RASSF1, the cell migration regulator HYAL1 and the angiogenesis suppressor SEMA3B. Phosphatidate phosphatases are a family of integral membrane glycoproteins that dephosphorylate a variety of lipid phosphates and play a role in signal transduction via the phospholipase D pathway. Exclusively expressed in neurons, LPPR4 hydrolyzes lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and facilitates axonal outgrowth during development and regenerative sprouting. UROD is the fifth enzyme of the heme biosynthetic pathway. This enzyme is responsible for catalyzing the conversion of uroporphyrinogen to coproporphyrinogen through the removal of four carboxymethyl side chains. Mutations and deficiency in this enzyme are known to cause familial porphyria cutanea tarda and hepatoerythropoetic porphyria. Porphyria cutanea tarda is an autosomal dominant disorder characterised by light-sensitive dermatitis and associated with the excretion of large amounts of uroporphyrin in urine. Hepatoerythropoetic porphyria is a form of porphyria cutanae tarda that may also be a manifestation of benign or malignant hepatic tumors.

RNF180 (ring finger protein 180), also known as Rines, is a 592 single-pass membrane protein that contains a single RING-type zinc finger. RNF180 is an E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. RNF180 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 5, which contains 181 million base pairs and comprises nearly 6% of the human genome.
