DNAJC3 may act as an inhibitor of both the autophosphorylation of EIF2AK2/PKR and the ability of EIF2AK2/PKR to catalyse phosphorylation of the EIF2A. It also functions as a Co-chaperone of HSPA8/HSC70 and is involved in the unfolded protein response (UPR) during ER stress. It has been reported that this protein stimulates the ATPase activity of HSPA8/HSC70.DNAJC3 is also involved in ativiral defense - it is activated in response to infection by influenza virus through the dissociation of DNAJB1. DNAJC3 is widely expressed and can be found at high levels in the testis and pancreas (expression in cell lines is variable).

DDX23 encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family. DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of RNA secondary structure, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Based on their distribution patterns, some members of this family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. The protein encoded by this gene is a component of the U5 snRNP complex; it may facilitate conformational changes in the spliceosome during nuclear pre-mRNA splicing. An alternatively spliced transcript variant has been found for this gene, but its biological validity has not been determined.

LZIC is a 190 amino acid protein that belongs to the CTNNBIP1 family. Ubiquitously expressed, LZIC is found at highest levels in kidney and is upregulated in a few gastric carcinomas. The gene encoding LZIC maps to human chromosome 1, which spans 260 million base pairs, contains over 3,000 genes and comprises nearly 8% of the human genome. Chromosome 1 houses a large number of disease-associated genes, including those that are involved in familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia and Usher syndrome. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers, including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma.
