Description:
F box protein 38 probably recognizes and binds to some phosphorylated proteins and promotes their ubiquitination and degradation. It may coactivate KLF7, but does not seem to promote KLF7 ubiquitination. There are three named isoforms.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin family. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. The type I cytokeratins consist of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. Unlike its related family members, this smallest known acidic cytokeratin is not paired with a basic cytokeratin in epithelial cells. It is specifically expressed in the periderm, the transiently superficial layer that envelopes the developing epidermis. The type I cytokeratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 17q12-q21.<be>This gene encodes the type I intermediate filament chain keratin 17, expressed in nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. Mutations in this gene lead to Jackson-Lawler type pachyonychia congenita and steatocystoma multiplex. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008].

Description:
Isomerase that catalyses the conversion of PGH2 into the more stable prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) (By similarity). May also have transactivation activity toward IFN-gamma (IFNG), possibly via an interaction with CEBPB; however, the relevance of transcription activation activity remains unclear.

Description:
Myotilin, a sarcomeric protein that is encoded by the gene mapping to human chromosome 5q31, binds to a-actinin and is localized in the Z-line of myofibrils. Myotilin is expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle, and it co-localizes with a-actinin in the sarcomeric I-bands where it directly interacts with a-actinin. Defects in the myotilin gene are reported to cause a form of autosomal dominant limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD). Symptoms of adult onset LGMD are progressive weakness of the hip and shoulder girdles as well as a distinctive dysarthric pattern of speech. The muscle of affected individuals with LGMD shows degeneration of myofibers, variations in fiber size, fiber splitting, centrally located myonuclei and an enhanced number of autophagic vesicles.

Description:
In concert with LBP, binds to monomeric lipopolysaccharide and delivers it to the MD-2/TLR4 complex, thereby mediating the innate immune response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Acts via MyD88, TIRAP and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. Up-regulates cell surface molecules, including adhesion molecules (By similarity).

Description:
N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are a class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptor channel has been shown to be involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in the efficiency of synaptic transmission thought to underlie certain kinds of memory and learning. NMDA receptor channels are heteromers composed of three different subunits: NR1 (GRIN1), NR2 (GRIN2A, GRIN2B, GRIN2C, or GRIN2D) and NR3 (GRIN3A or GRIN3B). The NR2 subunit acts as the agonist binding site for glutamate. This receptor is the predominant excitatory neurotransmitter receptor in the mammalian brain. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
