Description:   PCK1 is a main control point for the regulation of gluconeogenesis. This cytosolic enzyme, along with GTP, catalyzes the formation of phosphoenolpyruvate from oxaloacetate, with the release of carbon dioxide and GDP. The expression of the corresponding gene can be regulated by insulin, glucocorticoids, glucagon, cAMP, and diet. A mitochondrial isozyme has also been characterized.

Description:   Myelin regulatory factor: Consitutes a precursor of the transcription factor. Mediates the autocatalytic cleavage that releases the Myelin regulatory factor, N-terminal component that specifically activates transcription of central nervous system (CNS) myelin genes (PubMed:23966832). Myelin regulatory factor, C-terminal: Membrane-bound part that has no transcription factor activity and remains attached to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane following cleavage. Myelin regulatory factor, N-terminal: Transcription factor that specifically activates expression of myelin genes such as MBP, MOG, MAG and PLP1 during oligodendrocyte (OL) maturation, thereby playing a central role in oligodendrocyte maturation and CNS myelination. Specifically recognizes and binds DNA sequence 5'-CTGGYAC-3' in the regulatory regions of myelin-specific genes and directly activates their expression. Not only required during oligodendrocyte differentiation but is also required on an ongoing basis for the maintenance of expression of myelin genes and for the maintenance of a mature, viable oligodendrocyte phenotype (PubMed:23966832).

Description:   Acetyltransferases and deacetylases are protein groups most often associated with oncogenesis and cell cycle regulation. NAT-8B (N-acetyltransferase 8B), also known as CML2 (camello-like protein 2), is a 227 amino acid single-pass membrane protein that is implicated in gastrulation regulation. A member of the camello family, NAT-8B contains one N-acetyltransferase domain and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 2p13.2. The NAT-8B gene is susceptible to a nonsense mutation at Serine 16, which leads to a stop codon and subsequently, a non-functional protein that is truncated in length. Similarly, a nonsense mutation at Glutamine 168 is thought to lead to a non-functional protein, as it causes the N-acetyltransferase to become disrupted. Human chromosome 2 consists of 237 million bases, encodes over 1,400 genes and makes up approximately 8% of the human genome. A number of genetic diseases are linked to genes on chromosome 2 including Harlequin icthyosis, sitosterolemia and Alstré°‰ syndrome.

Description:   TNIK is a MSN protein kinase that interacts with both TNF receptor-associated factor 2 (TRAF2) and the adapter protein NCK. The protein has been shown to activate the c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathway when over expressed in Phoenix-A cells. TNIK has been shown to phosphorylate gelsolin, the principal intracellular and extracellular actin-severing protein, in vitro. This and evidence from mutational studies suggest that TNIK functions in the regulation of the cytoskeleton. Northern analysis indicates TNIK expression in human heart, skeletal muscle, and brain, with lower levels of expression in kidney, liver, lung, and pancreas. ESTs have been isolated from human tissue libraries, including normal amnion, gallbladder and skin.

Description:   The M1/69 antibody reacts with mouse CD24, a cell surface molecule also known as Heat Stable Antigen (HSA). CD24 is a GPI-linked glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion and is a ligand for CD62P (P-selectin). It is expressed on erthrocytes, thymocytes, peripheral lymphocytes and myeloid lineage cells. The expression of CD24 is used to delineate stages of of lymphocyte development in the bone marrow.

Description:   ABL2 (or ARG) is a nonreceptor cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase which is closely related to but distinct from ABL1. The similarity of ABL1 and ABL2 includes the tyrosine kinase domains and extends amino-terminal to include the SH2 and SH3 domains. ABL2 is expressed in both normal and tumor cells. It is involved in translocation with the ETV6 gene in human leukemia and has an altered expression in several human carcinomas. Two isoforms of ABL2 with different N-termini (1A and 1B) have been identified. The C-terminal domain of ABL2 contains two F-actin-binding sequences that perform a number of actions related to cell morphology and motility by interacting with actin filaments.

Description:   The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. TRAC-1 (T-cell RING activation protein 1), also known as RNF125 (ring finger protein 125) or E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RNF125, is a 232 amino acid novel E3 ubiquitin ligase that functions as a positive regulator in the T-cell receptor signaling pathway. Expressed predominantly in lymphoid tissues such as spleen, thymus and bone marrow, TRAC-1 has been found to inhibit pathogen-induced cytokine production and down-regulates HIV replication.

Description:   The ILK protein is important in different biological pathways such as cell adhesion, anchorage-dependent cell cycle progression, oncogenic transformation, and growth factor signaling. The kinase activity of ILK is low in non-activated cells; its activity is stimulated by cell-ECM interactions and by certain growth factors. 3 Negative regulation of ILK is mediated by two phosphatases: PTEN, a tumor suppressor lipid sphatase, and ILKAP, a PP2C protein phosphatase. In tumor cells that do not express PTEN protein, ILK is constitutively active.

Description:   Matrin 3 (MATR 3) is an internal nuclear matrix protein that may play a role in transcription or may interact with other nuclear matrix proteins to form the internal fibrogranular network. In association with the SFPQ-NONO heteromer MATR 3 may play a role in nuclear retention of defective RNAs. MATR3 forms part of complex consisting of SFPQ, NONO and MATR3.The protein contains 1 matrin type zinc finger and 2 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene.

Description:   Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. ZNF346 (Zinc finger protein 346), also known as JAZ (Just another zinc finger protein), is a 294 amino acid protein that contains four matrin-type zinc fingers. The matrin-type zinc finger, which is very similar in structure to the classical DNA-binding C2H2 zinc finger, was first identified in the protein matrin-3. The matrin-type zinc finger has also been identified in several spliceosome RNA-binding proteins. Two isoforms exists due to alternate splicing events.

Description:   DOM3Z, also known as NG6 or DOM3L, is a 396 amino acid ubiquitously expressed protein belonging to the Dom3Z family. The gene encoding DOM3Z maps to human chromosome 6 in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class III region. Chromosome 6 contains 170 million base pairs and comprises nearly 6% of the human genome. Deletion of a portion of the q arm of chromosome 6 is associated with early onset intestinal cancer, suggesting the presence of a cancer susceptibility locus. Additionally, Porphyria cutanea tarda, Parkinson's disease and Stickler syndrome are all associated with genes that map to chromosome 6.
