Description:   GTPase-activating protein for the ADP ribosylation factor family. May serve as a scaffold to bring together molecules to form signaling modules controlling vesicle trafficking, adhesion and cytoskeletal organization. Increases the speed of cell migration, as well as the size and rate of formation of protrusions, possibly by targeting PAK1 to adhesions and the leading edge of lamellipodia. Sequesters inactive non-tyrosine-phosphorylated paxillin in cytoplasmic complexes. Involved in the regulation of cytokinesis; the function may involve SDCCAG3 and PTPN13 (By similarity).

Description:   phosphorylated at the Thr-Pro-Tyr phosphorylation motif instead of the characteristic MAP kinase Thr-Glu-Tyr motif. JNK2 (p54a, SAPK1a), along with JNK1 and JNK3, is thought to play an important role in nuclear signal transduction through its environmental stress activation and subsequent phosphorylation of the nuclear transcription factor p53.

Description:   The smallest of the human chromosomes, 21 makes up about 1.5% of the human genome. Chromosome 21 contains nearly 300 genes and 47 million base pairs. Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is the disease most commonly associated with chromosome 21. Alzheimer's disease, Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are also associated with chromosome 21. Translocations are found to occur between chromosome 21 and 8, and chromosome 21 and 12, in certain leukaemias. C2CD2 is an 696 amino acid protein that is secreted. The C2CD2 gene product has been provisionally designated C2CD2 pending further characterisation.

Description:   The cJun proto-oncogene was first identified as the cellular homolog of the avian sarcoma virus vjun oncogene. JunB and JunD have been shown to be almost identical to cJun in their C terminal regions, which are involved in dimerization and DNA binding, whereas their N terminal domains, which are involved in transcriptional activation, diverge. JunB is a transcription factor involved in regulating gene activity following the primary growth factor response. It binds to the DNA sequence 5'-TGA[CG]TCA-3'.

Description:   GGT6 belongs to the gamma-glutamyltransferase family. GGT is a membrane-bound extracellular enzyme that cleaves gamma-glutamyl peptide bonds in glutathione and other peptides and transfers the gamma-glutamyl moiety to acceptors. GGT is also key to glutathione homeostasis because it provides substrates for glutathione synthesis. GGT6 has very limited amino acid similarity to GGT1 and it's enzymatic activities are currently uncharacterised. GGT assays are of current widespread clinical use to help assess tissue damage.

Description:   Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways involve closely related MAP kinases, including extracellular-signal-related kinase 3 (ERK 3, also designated PRKM6 and p97MAPK). Serum, growth factors and phorbol esters can initiate ERK 3 signaling pathways. Despite lacking a definitive nuclear localization sequence, ERK 3 constitutively localizes to the nucleus upon activation. p38 pathway activation-dependent upregulation of ERK 3 is independent of the status of p53, Bcl-2 and caspase-3 during cell stress and damage induced by proteasome inhibition, suggesting ERK 3 in part mediates intracellular defense or cell rescue. The human ERK 3 gene maps to chromosome 15q21.2 and encodes a 721 amino acid protein.

Description:   The insulin-like growth factors possess growth-promoting activity. In vitro, they are potent mitogens for cultured cells. IGF-II is influenced by placental lactogen and may play a role in fetal development. Preptin undergoes glucose-mediated co-secretion with insulin, and acts as physiological amplifier of glucose-mediated insulin secretion. Exhibits osteogenic properties by increasing osteoblast mitogenic activity through phosphoactivation of MAPK1 and MAPK3.

Description:   Mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases are a large class of proteins involved in signal transduction pathways that are activated by a range of stimuli and mediate a number of physiological and pathological changes in the cell. Dual specificity phosphatases (DSPs) are a subclass of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) gene superfamily, which are selective for dephosphorylating critical phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine residues within MAP kinases. DSP gene expression is induced by a host of growth factors and/or cellular stresses, thereby negatively regulating MAP kinase superfamily members including MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK and p38. MKP-5 preferentially binds to p38, but also to SAPK/JNK. It is ubiquitously expressed and localizes to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus. MKP-5 has been implicated in cell proliferation and apoptosis, tumor invasion and immune responses.

Description:   F-box proteins are critical components of the SCF (Skp1-CUL-1-F-box protein) type E3 ubiquitin ligase complex and are involved in substrate recognition and protein recruitment. F-box proteins are members of a large family that regulate the cell cycle, immune response, signaling cascades and developmental programs by targeting proteins, such as cyclins, for degradation by the proteasome after ubiquitination. FBL11, also known as FBXL11 (F-box and leucine-rich repeat protein 11), CXXC8, KDM2A, JHDM1A (JmjC domain-containing histone demethylation protein 1A) or LILINA, is a 1,162 amino acid member of the F-box protein family that contains one F-box domain and localises to the nucleus. Expressed ubiquitously with highest expression in testis, ovary and brain, FBL11 functions to demethylate the Lys-36 residue of histone H3, thereby modulating the histone code. Additionally, FBL11 is thought to promote the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of various phosphorylated proteins. Three isoforms of FBL11 exist due to alternative splicing events.

Description:   DEAD-box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp, are putative RNA helicases implicated in several cellular processes involving modifications of RNA secondary structure and ribosome/spliceosome assembly. Based on their distribution patterns, some members of this family may be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. DDX32 is a 743 amino acid nuclear protein that localizes to the mitochondria and is a member of the DEAD box helicase family. Expressed in various tissues, DDX32 is up-regulated by ionomycin in T lymphocytes and down-regulated in acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Considered a novel RNA helicase, DDX32 may play an important role in the development of colorectal cancer and may be involved in regulating T-cell response to certain apoptotic stimuli.
