Description:   LMBR1 is a 490 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that is widely expressed with strongest expression in heart and pancreas. Belonging to the LIMR family, LMBR1 shares 95% sequence identity with the mouse protein and may play crucial role in the evolution of limb and skeletal system. LMBR1 is critical for expression of sonic hedgehog (Shh) in the developing posterior limb bud mesenchyme. Mutations in the gene encoding LMBR1 is the cause of several rare conditions such as acheiropody (ACHP) and syndactyly type 4 (SDYT4). ACHP is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder characterized by bilateral congenital amputations of the hands and feet. LMBR1L (limb region 1 protein homolog-like), also known as LIMR (Lipocalin-1-interacting membrane receptor), is a 489 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that is thought to act as a receptor for Lipocalin-1 and may also assist in its endocytosis.

Description:   The BM8.1 antibody is specific for mouse F4/80 antigen, a 125 kDa transmembrane protein widely expressed by members of the mononuclear phagocyte system and considered to be a key marker for mature macrophage cells. F4/80 is differentially expressed during myeloid cell development, and may be regulated by certain cytokines within the tissue microenvironment. Other cell types shown to express this antigen include Langerhans cells, Kupffer cells and dendritic cell subsets. BM8.1 is widely used together with antibodies to CD115 (c-fms), CD11b and CD11c to identify myeloid / macrophage cells by flow cytometry.

Description:   Transcription regulator of erythrocyte development that probably serves as a general switch factor during erythropoiesis. Is a dual regulator of fetal-to-adult globin switching. Binds to the CACCC box in the beta-globin gene promoter and acts as a preferential activator of this gene. Furthermore, it binds to the BCL11A promoter and activates expression of BCL11A, which in turn represses the HBG1 and HBG2 genes. This dual activity ensures that, in most adults, fetal hemoglobin levels are low. Able to activate CD44 and AQP1 promoters. When sumoylated, acts as a transcriptional repressor by promoting interaction with CDH2/MI2beta and also represses megakaryocytic differentiation (By similarity).

Description:   This gene encodes a member of the p53 family of transcription factors involved in cellular responses to stress and development. It maps to a region on chromosome 1p36 that is frequently deleted in neuroblastoma and other tumors, and thought to contain multiple tumor suppressor genes. The demonstration that this gene is monoallelically expressed (likely from the maternal allele), supports the notion that it is a candidate gene for neuroblastoma. Many transcript variants resulting from alternative splicing and/or use of alternate promoters have been found for this gene, but the biological validity and the full-length nature of some variants have not been determined. Description:   DBX2 is a 339 amino acid member of the H2.0 homeobox family. DBX2, which is localised to the nucleus, contains one homeobox DNA-binding domain, a region of 60 amino acids that binds DNA through a helix-turn-helix type of structure. DBX2, which is expressed in the forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain and spinal cord, has been implicated in CNS development. Specifically, DBX2 has been shown to play a role in spinal cord dorsal/ventral patterning, as well as the regionalization of the CNS. DBX2 is also thought to play a role in the production of multiple spinal cord cell types.

Description:   SERPINI2 is a member of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) superfamily made up of proteins which play central roles in the regulation of a wide variety of physiological processes, including coagulation, fibrinolysis, development, malignancy and inflammation. It may have a role in a growth-control, possibly growth-suppressing pathway and, when impaired, may be involved in pancreatic carcinogenesis. The protein is a member of the plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 family, a subset of the serpin superfamily whose members act as tissue-specific tPA inhibitors. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms have been found for this gene.

Description:   SRPX2 is a 465 amino acid secreted protein expressed in neurons of the brain, including the rolandic area. It has been suggested that SRPX2 enhances cell motility, migration and adhesion through FAK signaling in gastric and other cancer cells. Localized to the cytoplasm, SRPX2 is a ligand for uPAR (urokinase plasminogen activator), a receptor that is a crucial component of the extracellular plasminogen proteolysis system. SRPX2 may be responsible for rolandic seizures (RSs) associated with oral and speech dyspraxia and mental retardation (MR). The involvement of SRPX2 in these disorders suggests an important role for SRPX2 in the perisylvian region critical for language and cognitive development.

Description:   Transcriptional activator which binds specifically to the MEF2 element, 5'-YTA[AT](4)TAR-3', found in numerous muscle-specific genes. Also involved in the activation of numerous growth factor- and stress-induced genes. Mediates cellular functions not only in skeletal and cardiac muscle development, but also in neuronal differentiation and survival. Plays diverse roles in the control of cell growth, survival and apoptosis via p38 MAPK signaling in muscle-specific and/or growth factor-related transcription. In cerebellar granule neurons, phosphorylated and sumoylated MEF2A represses transcription of NUR77 promoting synaptic differentiation. Associates with chromatin to the ZNF16 promoter.

Description:   Photoreceptor-specific nuclear receptor, also known as NR2E3 or PNR, belongs to a large family of nuclear hormone receptor transcription factors. The proteins belonging to this family are characterized by discrete domains functioning in DNA and ligand binding. NR2E3 has a role in regulating the signaling pathway elemental to the photoreceptor cell function and in regulating pathways involved in embryonic development. NR2E3 is an eye specific nuclear protein found in the outer nuclear layer of the adult retina (where the nuclei of cone and rod photoreceptors are located). Defects in this gene encoding for the protein, which localizes to chromosome 15q22.32, cause enhanced S cone syndrome.

Description:   Glutamate receptors mediate most excitatory neurotransmission in the brain and play an important role in neural plasticity, neural development and neurodegeneration. Lonotropic glutamate receptors are categorized into NMDA receptors and kainate/AMPA receptors, both of which contain glutamate-gated, cation-specific ion channels. Kainate/AMPA receptors are co-localized with NMDA receptors in many synapses and consist of seven structurally related subunits designated GluR-1 to -7. The kainate/AMPA receptors are primarily responsible for fast excitatory neurotransmission by glutamate, whereas the NMDA receptors exhibit slow kinesis of Ca2+ ions and a high permeability for Ca2+ ions.

Description:   Transcription factor involved in the induction of oxygen regulated genes. Binds to core DNA sequence 5'-[AG]CGTG-3' within the hypoxia response element (HRE) of target gene promoters. Regulates the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression and seems to be implicated in the development of blood vessels and the tubular system of lung. May also play a role in the formation of the endothelium that gives rise to the blood brain barrier. Potent activator of the Tie-2 tyrosine kinase expression. Activation requires recruitment of transcriptional coactivators such as CREBPB and probably EP3. Interaction with redox regulatory protein APEX seems to activate CTAD (By similarity).
