Description:   This gene encodes a member of the galectin family of carbohydrate binding proteins. Members of this protein family have an affinity for beta-galactosides. The encoded protein is characterised by an N-terminal proline-rich tandem repeat domain and a single C-terminal carbohydrate recognition domain. This protein can self-associate through the N-terminal domain allowing it to bind to multivalent saccharide ligands. This protein localizes to the extracellular matrix, the cytoplasm and the nucleus. This protein plays a role in numerous cellular functions including apoptosis, innate immunity, cell adhesion and T-cell regulation. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Description:   Mre11 is a component of the MRN complex, which plays a critical role in double-strand break repair (DSB), DNA recombination, maintenance of telomere integrity, and meiosis. Mre11 has both single-strand endonuclease and double strand-specific 3'-5' exonuclease activities. Rad50, another component of the MRN complex, is postulated to bind to DNA ends and hold them in close proximity, thus facilitating searches for regions of sequence homology, and also possibly stimulating the activity of DNA ligases and/or restricting Mre11 activity. Mutations in Mre11 may cause breast cancer.

Description:   APMAP is a 416 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to the strictosidine synthase family and is thought to play a role in adipocyte differentiation. The gene encoding C20orf3 maps to human chromosome 20, which houses over 600 genes some of which are associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome and Alagille syndrome. Additionally, chromosome 20 contains a region with numerous genes which are thought important for seminal production and may be potential targets for male contraception.

Description:   EphA3 is a member of the Ephrin (Eph) family. The Ephrins and Eph-related receptors comprise the largest subfamily of receptor protein-tyrosine kinases and have been implicated in mediating developmental events, especially in the nervous system and in erythropoiesis. Based on their structures and sequence relationships, ephrins are divided into the Ephrin A (EphA) class, which are anchored to the membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage, and the Ephrin B (EphB) class, which are transmembrane proteins. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats.

Description:   Nectin 2 is a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein with two Ig-like C2-type domains and an Ig-like V-type domain. This protein is one of the plasma membrane components of adherens junctions. It also serves as an entry for certain mutant strains of herpes simplex virus and pseudorabies virus, and it is involved in cell to cell spreading of these viruses. Variations in this gene have been associated with differences in the severity of multiple sclerosis. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. Can form trans-heterodimers with PVRL3/nectin-3.

Description:   This gene belongs to the ephrin receptor subfamily of the protein-tyrosine kinase family. EPH and EPH-related receptors have been implicated in mediating developmental events, particularly in the nervous system. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats. The ephrin receptors are divided into 2 groups based on the similarity of their extracellular domain sequences and their affinities for binding ephrin-A and ephrin-B ligands. This gene is expressed in some human cancer cell lines and has been implicated in carcinogenesis.

Description:   Recognizes a sialoglycoprotein of 39 kDa, identified as glycophorin A (GPA). It is present on red blood cells (RBC) and erythroid precursor cells. It has been shown that glycophorin acts as the receptor for Sandei virus and parvovirus. Glycophorins A (GPA) and B (GPB), which are single, trans-membrane sialoglycoproteins. GPA is the carrier of blood group M and N specificities, while GPB accounts for S and U specificities. GPA and GPB provide the cells with a large mucin like surface and it has been suggested this provides a barrier to cell fusion, so minimizing aggregation between red blood cells in the circulation.

Description:   IL-1R9 is a member of the interleukin-1/Toll-like receptor family expressed in fetal brain. It is a single pass transmembrane protein with a highly conserved cytoplasmic region that is slightly longer than that of other family members. IL-1R9 is highly homologous to IL-1R8 and the IL-1 accessory protein receptor chains. The genes encoding IL-1R9 and IL-1R8 are both found on the X-chromosome in the region associated with X-linked non-syndromic mental retardation. Unlike other family members, IL-1R9 and IL-1R8 do not activate NF-kB.

Description:   Llama anti-rabbit CF™ dye conjugates are prepared by labeling affinity purified llama anti-rabbit IgG (H+L) with a selection of CF™ dyes. CF™ dyes offer combined advantages in brightness, photostability, and specificity compared other fluorescent dyes. CF™594 (Ex/Em 593/614 nm) is a deep-red dye spectrally similar to Alexa Fluor® 594 and Texas Red® dye but yields much brighter protein conjugates due to its high quantum yield and exceptional water solubility. CF™594 also has excellent photostability ideal for demanding applications, such as confocal microscopy and single molecule imaging.

Alexa Fluor® and Texas Red® are registered trademarks of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Description:   ERCs (ERC1 and ERC2) also referred to as ELKS and CAST are related proteins which share an identical C-terminal sequence. They interact with the conserved RIM PDZ domain via an unusual PDZ binding motif. ERC2/CAST 1 is only expressed as a single RIM binding variant. All ERCs have been shown to interact with Rab6, a protein involved in membrane trafficking at the Golgi complex. The function of these proteins has not been determined yet. They may link Rab6 mediated non-neuronal membrane traffic at the Golgi complex to neuronal membrane traffic at the active zone executed via RIMs.

Description:   BMP2 belongs to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily of secreted growth factors. It is a disulfide-linked homodimer and induces bone and cartilage formation. In addition to its osteogenic activity, BMP2 plays an important role in cardiac morphogenesis and is expressed in a variety of tissues including lung, spleen, brain, liver, prostate ovary and small intestine. The functional form of BMP2 is a 26 kDa protein composed of two identical 114 amino acid polypeptide chains linked by a single disulfide bond. BMPs control fundamental events in early embryonic development, organogenesis and adult tissue homeostasis.
