RENBP is a 427 amino acid protein that is a proteinaceous renin inhibitor. In inhibiting renin, RENBP forms a complex with it; a high molecular weight renin. RENBP contains a leucine zipper domain, which is essential for its dimerization with renin. RENBP can catalyze the interconversion of N-acetylglucosamine to N-acetylmannosamine, indicating that it is a GlcNAc 2-epimerase. Sequences of porcine, human and rat renin-binding proteins are highly homologous. The RENBP gene is conserved in dog, mouse, rat and zebrafish, and maps to human chromosome Xq28 between DXS52 and G6PD. Rat Renbp is located on chromosome X at Xq37 close to marker DXWox3 and falls outside the BP QTL regions on chromosome X.

Localizing to the golgi apparatus membrane, GBGT1 is widely expressed, with high levels found in placenta, ovary and peripheral blood leukocyte, and lower levels expressed in liver, thymus and testis. GBGT1 utilizes manganese as a cofactor, and assists in the addition of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) in alpha-1,3-linkage to various substrates, resulting in the formation of glycolipids. Glycolipids are present in most eukaryotic cells and may assist in the adherence of certain pathogens. GPRC6A (G protein-coupled receptor family C group 6 member A) is a 928 amino acid protein encoded by the mouse Gprc6a gene. GPRC6A is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor 3 family. This receptor is activated by both amino acids and extracellular concentration of calcium ions. The activity of GPRC6A is mediated by a G protein that activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. GPRC6A senses changes in the extracellular concentration of calcium ions, suggesting that it may mediate extracellular calcium-sensing responses in osteoblasts. Osteocalin stimulates the activity of GPRC6A in the presence of calcium. GPRC6A also acts as a receptor for amino acids, with a preference for basic amino acids such as L-Lys, L-Arg and L-ornithine. Its affinity for amino acids suggests that it may act as a regulatory component of the urea cycle. Retinoids are metabolites of vitamin A (retinal) and are believed to represent important signaling molecules during vertebrate development and tissue differentiation. Two families of retinoid receptors have been identified. Retinoic acid receptors (RARs) include RAR alpha, RAR beta and RAR gamma, each of which has a high affinity for all trans retinoic acids and belongs to the same class of nuclear transcription factors as thyroid hormone receptors, vitamin D3 receptor and ecdysone receptor. The ligand binding domains of the RARs are highly conserved and RAR isoforms are expressed in distinct patterns through out development and in the mature organism. Members of the retinoid X receptor (RXR) family, RXR alpha, RXR beta and RXR gamma, are activated by 9 cis retinoic acid, a stereo and photoisomer of all trans RA that is expressed in vivo in both liver and kidney and may represent a widely used hormone.
