Description:   The CUB and sushi domain-containing proteins, CSMD1-3, are membrane proteins that are involved in cell-cell adhesion and are weakly expressed in most tissues, with higher levels of expression observed in the cerebellum and hippocampus. CSMD1 is part of the complement system that defends against pathogens through either the classical pathway or the alternative pathway. Located primarily in nerve growth cones, CSMD1 blocks the classical pathway of the immune system and is thought to be involved in tumor suppression, as defects in the gene encoding CSMD1 are associated with squamous cell carcinomas. CSMD2 and CSMD3 are located primarily in the brain and are implicated in some forms of head and neck cancer. Additionally, the CSMD3 gene is a candidate for induction of epileptic seizures.

Description:   p107 is a tumor suppressor protein that appears to be involved in cell cycle regulation, as it is phosphorylated in the S to M phase transition and is dephosphorylated in the G1 phase of the cell cycle. Both the RB1 protein and the product of this gene can form a complex with adenovirus E1A protein and SV40 large T-antigen, with the SV40 large T-antigen binding only to the unphosphorylated form of each protein. In addition, both proteins can inhibit the transcription of cell cycle genes containing E2F binding sites in their promoters. Due to the sequence and biochemical similarities with the RB1 protein, it is thought that the protein encoded by this gene may also be a tumor suppressor. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

Isoform 1 participates in the prevention of neuronal apoptosis by enhancing PI3 kinase activity. Description:   In Western blotting, this antibody recognizes proteins in MW range of 265-400 kDa, identified as different glycoforms of EMA. This MAb reacts with the DTRP epitope in the tandem repeats. The α subunit has cell adhesive properties. It can act both as an adhesion and an anti-adhesion protein. EMA may provide a protective layer on epithelial cells against bacterial and enzyme attack. The β subunit contains a C-terminal domain, which is involved in cell signaling, through phosphorylations and protein-protein interactions. In immunohistochemical assays, it superbly stains routine formalin/paraffin carcinoma tissues. Antibody to EMA is useful as a pan-epithelial marker for detecting early metastatic loci of carcinoma in bone marrow or liver.

Description:   Recognizes a protein of 52 kDa-58 kDa, identified as CD46 (also known as membrane cofactor protein, MCP). CD46 exists as many isoforms in a variety of tissues. It is strongly expressed on salivary gland ducts and kidney ducts, moderately on lymphocytes and endothelium, and weakly on interstitial tissues and muscle cells, but not on erythrocytes. CD46 functions as a C3b/C4b-binding glycoprotein that inhibits complement activation on host cells. It also serves as a measles virus receptor, an adherence factor for group A Streptococcus pyogenes, and a cellular pilus receptor for pathogenic Neisseria.
