Soluble frizzled-related proteins (sFRPS) function as modulators of Wnt signaling through direct interaction with Wnts. They have a role in regulating cell growth and differentiation in specific cell types. SFRP1 decreases intracellular beta-catenin levels (By similarity). Has antiproliferative effects on vascular cells, in vitro and in vivo, and can induce, in vivo, an angiogenic response. In vascular cell cycle, delays the G1 phase and entry into the S phase (By similarity). In kidney development, inhibits tubule formation and bud growth in metanephroi (By similarity). Axotrophin is a stem cell gene that encodes a protein which is involved in T lymphocyte regulation (especially in regulating the proliferation) and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) release. LIF is a neuropoietic cytokine that is important for stem cell regulation and thymocyte stimulation. Both Axotrophin and LIF are linked to transplantation intolerance. Axotrophin is also involved in corpus callosum differentiation and may play a role in glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF)-dependent sensory neuron survival in the substantia gelatinosa of the adult spinal cord. Axotrophin is primarily expressed in the hippocampus, cortex, purkinje and granule cells of the cerebellum.

Description:
Recognizes a 40-43 kDa transmembrane epithelial glycoprotein, identified as epithelial specific antigen (ESA), or epithelial cellular adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM). Ep-CAM is expressed on baso-lateral cell surface in most simple epithelia and a vast majority of carcinomas. This antibody has been used to distinguish adenocarcinoma from pleural mesothelioma and hepatocellular carcinoma. It is also useful in distinguishing serous carcinomas of the ovary from mesothelioma. This epithelial antigen plays an important role as a tumor-cell marker in lymph nodes from patients with esophageal carcinoma otherwise classified as node-negative. Epithelial antigen has also been suggested as a discriminator between basal cell and baso-squamous carcinomas, and squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.

CD16 exists as a polypepetide-anchored from (FCRIIIA or CD16A) on human natural killer (NK) cells and monocytes/ macrophages and as a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored form (FcRIIIB or CD16B) on neutrophils. CD16B is polymorphic and the two alleles are termed NA1 and NA2.3 CD16 plays a role in signal transduction, NK cell activation and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. This MAb has been showed to inhibit the binding of immune complex to NK cells, inhibit cytotoxicity of NK cells, and induce calcium fluxes in NK cells and neutrophils.

Recognizes a protein of 80 kDa-90 kDa, identified as CD36. It is expressed on platelets, monocytes and macrophages, microvascular endothelial cells, erythrocyte precursors, mammary epithelial cells, and some macrophage derived dendritic cells. CD36 acts as a receptor for thrombospondin (TSP), collagen types I, IV and V, P. falciparum malaria-infected erythrocytes, and sickle erythrocytes. It also functions as a scavenger receptor, mediating macrophage uptake of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and recognition of apoptotic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN). CD36 plays a role in platelet aggregation, macrophage foam cell development, inflammation, and the tissue ischemia observed in sickle cell disease and cerebral malaria. Note that 1-4% of Japanese and East Asia population lack CD36.

Description:
VpreB is expressed in pre-B lymphocytes, but not in mature B cells or in other blood cell lineages. The gene which encodes VpreB maps to human chromosome 22q11.2. The VpreB and Lambda 5 genes encode the Iota and Omega polypeptide chains, respectively, which associate with the Ig-Mu chain to form a molecular complex that is expressed on the surface of pre-B cells. This complex presumably regulates Ig gene rearrangements in the early steps of B cell differentiation. In the mouse the two genes are simultaneously expressed in pre-B cells and belong to the same transcription unit. A primary transcript is synthesized from which the pre-B and Lambda 5 mRNAs are derived by alternative splicing. In the human, however, the two genes are separate and do not belong to the same transcription unit.
