CD11b is a cell adhesion molecule that acts as a receptor for cell surface ligands such as intracellular adhesion molecules (ICAMs) or soluble ligands. Integrins are heterodimeric proteins that contain an a chain and b chain. Integrin αM combines with the Integrin β2 to form a leukocyte-specific integrin referred to as macrophage receptor 1 (Mac-1), or inactivated-C3b (iC3b) receptor 3 (CR3). Integrin αM/β2 is important in the adherence of neutrophils and monocytes to stimulated endothelium, and also in the phagocytosis of complement coated particles. The protein CD11b has been implicated in the various adhesion-related interactions of cells such as monocytes, macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and granulocytes. It is part of a heterodimer that consists of CD11b and CD18. It also modulates the uptake of complement-coated particles within the cell. It is commonly used as a microglial marker in tissues derived from the nervous system.

Recognizes a protein of 55 kDa, identified as CD25 (Workshop IV; Code A27). CD25 is expressed on activated T- and B-cells and activated monocytes/macrophages. With respect to lymphomas, CD25 is present on malignant cells of Hodgkin's disease, HTLV-1 adult T-cell leukemia, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and hair cell leukemia. Increased levels of soluble CD25 are observed in the leukemias/lymphomas and inflammatory/ autoimmune diseases. CD25 molecule alone appears to function as a low affinity receptor and associates with CD122 (IL-2R beta chain, p75) and CD132 (common gammachain) to form the high affinity IL-2 receptor complex. CD25 antibodies detect three epitope regions, A, B and C. This MAb recognizes the epitope B, which is located at residue 3-104 of CD25 and can effectively block IL-2 binding to CD25.

The UC10-4F10-11 antibody is specific for mouse CD152, commonly known as CTLA-4, a 33-37 kDa protein expressed as a homodimer on the surface of activated T and B cells, and on thymocytes. CTLA-4 is structurally similar, yet functionally disparate, to the T cell co-stimulatory molecule CD28. Both CTLA-4 and CD28 interact with the co-stimulatory molecules CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) on antigen-presenting cells, with CTLA-4 displaying a higher avidity than CD28. There are three protocadherin gene clusters, designated alpha, beta and gamma, all of which contain multiple tandemly arranged genes. PCDH17 is a 1,159 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that contains six cadherin domains. Expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, PCDH17 is thought to function as a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein that may play a role in establishing cell-cell connections within brain tissue. AJs are necessary for the creation and maintenance of epithelial cell layers by regulating cell growth and adhesion between cells. The encoded protein also anchors the actin cytoskeleton and may be responsible for transmitting the contact inhibition signal that causes cells to stop dividing once the epithelial sheet is complete. Finally, this protein binds to the product of the APC gene, which is mutated in adenomatous polyposis of the colon. Mutations in this gene are a cause of colorectal cancer (CRC), pilomatrixoma (PTR), medulloblastoma (MDB), and ovarian cancer. Tight junctions help establish polarity in mammalian epithelia by forming a physical barrier that separates apical and basolateral membranes. Pals-associated tight junction protein (PATJ), the human homolog of Drosophila Discs Lost, is differentially localized in myelinating Schwann cells. PATJ associates with Claudin-1, CRB1 (a transmembrane protein that plays a role in epithelial cell polarity and photoreceptor development), and Pals1 (a Lin-7 associated protein). The PATJ/Pals1/CRB1 complex can form a tripartite tight junction in epithelial cells crucial to their integrity.

JWA is a four-transmembrane environmental responsive protein which binds to the CC chemokine recepor 5 (CCR5), a major co-receptor for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). JWA is involved in environmental stress-responsive pathways in K562 cells, an erythroleukemia cell line derived from patients with chronic myeloid leukemia. Environmental stressors to K562 cells such as heat shock, a higher temperature than the ideal body temperature of the organism from which the cell line was derived, and oxidative stress, the production of oxygen-centered free radicals, regulate and increase the expres-sion of JWA. This response to environmental stressors suggests similiarity of JWA to heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), which is upregulated by heat stress and toxic chemicals.
