Description:
Hemagglutinin (HA) is a class I viral fusion protein from Influenza virus. It is a major glycoprotein, comprising over 80% of the envelope proteins present in the virus particle. HA binds to sialic acid-containing receptors on the cell surface, bringing about the attachment of the virus particle to the cell, and is responsible for penetration of the virus into the cell cytoplasm by mediating the fusion of the membrane of the endocytosed virus particle with the endosomal membrane. The extent of infection into host organism is determined by HA. In natural infection, inactive HA is matured into HA1 and HA2 outside the cell by one or more trypsin-like, arginine-specific endoproteases secreted by the bronchial epithelial cells. The HA protein is a homotrimer of disulfide-linked HA1-HA2. It also plays a major role in the determination of host range restriction and virulence. Genetic variation of hemagglutinin and/or neuraminidase genes results in the emergence of new influenza strains.

Description:
At least five CD1 genes (CD1a, b, c, d, and e) are identified. CD1 proteins have been demonstrated to restrict T cell response to non-peptide lipid and glycolipid antigens and play a role in non-classical antigen presentation. CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class 1 related cell surface glycoprotein, expressed in association with Beta-2 microglobulin. Anti-CD1a labels Langerhans cell histiocytosis (Histiocytosis X), extranodal histiocytic sarcoma, a subset of T-lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia, and interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma of the lymph node. When combined with antibodies against TTF-1 and CD5, anti-CD1a is useful in distinguishing between pulmonary and thymic neoplasms since CD1a is consistently expressed in thymic lymphocytes in both typical and atypical thymomas, but only focally in 1/6 of thymic carcinomas and not in lymphocytes in pulmonary neoplasms. Anti-CD1a is reported to be a new marker for perivascular epithelial cell tumor (PEComa).

Description:
This antibody recognizes a cell surface glycoprotein of 95/115/135 kDa (depending upon the extent of glycosylation), identified as CD43 [Workshop IV]. Epitope of MAb Bra7G is clearly different from that of MAb DF-T1, called b as opposed to a for DF-T1. 70-90% of T-cell lymphomas and from 22-37% of B-cell lymphomas express CD43. No reactivity has been observed with reactive B-cells. So a B-lineage population that co-expresses CD43 is highly likely to be a malignant lymphoma, especially a low-grade lymphoma, rather than a reactive B-cell population. When CD43 antibody is used in combination with anti-CD20, effective immunophenotyping of the lymphomas in formalin-fixed tissues can be obtained. Co-staining of a lymphoid infiltrate with anti-CD20 and anti-CD43 argues against a reactive process and favors a diagnosis of lymphoma.

Description:
E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from specific E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, and transfers it to substrates, generally promoting their degradation by the proteasome. Negatively regulates TCR (T-cell receptor), BCR (B-cell receptor) and FCER1 (high affinity immunoglobulin epsilon receptor) signal transduction pathways. In naive T-cells, inhibits VAV1 activation upon TCR engagement and imposes a requirement for CD28 costimulation for proliferation and IL-2 production. Also acts by promoting PIK3R1/p85 ubiquitination, which impairs its recruitment to the TCR and subsequent activation. In activated T-cells, inhibits PLCG1 activation and calcium mobilisation upon restimulation and promotes anergy. In B-cells, acts by ubiquitinating SYK and promoting its proteasomal degradation. Slightly promotes SRC ubiquitination. May be involved in EGFR ubiquitination and internalisation. May be functionally coupled with the E2 ubiquitin-protein ligase UB2D3.

Description:
In plant cells, the vacuole functions as a major calcium store. Although a calmodulin-regulated Ca2+-ATPase (ACA4) is known to be present in prevacuolar compartments, the presence of an ACA-type Ca2+-ATPase in the mature vacuole of a plant cell has not been verified. Here we provide evidence that ACA11 localizes to the vacuole membrane. ACA11 tagged with GFP was expressed in stable transgenic plants, and visualized in root cells and protoplasts by confocal microscopy. A Ca2+-ATPase function for ACA11 was confirmed by complementation of yeast mutants.

Description:
The C-type lectin/C-type lectin-like domain (CTL/CTLD) superfamily consists of a variety of proteins that share a common protein fold and have diverse functions, including cell-cell signaling, cell adhesion, glycoprotein turnover and immune responses. CLEC-12A (C-type lectin domain family 12, member A), also known as CLL1, MICL, CLL-1 or DCAL-2, is a 275 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that contains one C-type lectin domain and belongs to the CTL/CTLD superfamily. Existing as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms that are expressed in neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes and dendritic cells, CLEC-12A functions as a cell surface receptor that acts as a negative regulator of granulocyte and monocyte function and, via this activity, modulates signaling cascades. CLEC-12A is highly subject to post-translational glycosylation at its N-terminus and may also exist as a homodimer.

Description:
APXL is a 1,616 amino acid protein that localizes to a variety of locations within the cell, including the cytoplasm, the cytoskeleton, the cell junction and the apical cell membrane. Containing one ASD1 domain, one ASD2 domain and one PDZ domain, APXL interacts with F-Actin and is thought to mediate endothelial cell morphology during cell spreading, possibly regulating melanosome biogenesis and inducing γ Tubulin redistribution. APXL is expressed in kidney, brain, lung, pancreas and placenta and is overexpressed in melanomas, suggesting a role in tumor transformation and metastasis. The gene encoding APXL maps to human chromosome X, which contains nearly 153 million base pairs and houses over 1,000 genes. In conjunction with chromosome Y, chromosome X is responsible for sex determination. There are a number of conditions related to an abnormal number and combination of sex chromosomes, some of which include Turner's syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a transforming protein that is related to Rho-specific exchange factors and yeast cell cycle regulators. The expression of this gene is elevated with the onset of DNA synthesis and remains elevated during G2 and M phases. In situ hybridisation analysis showed that expression is at a high level in cells undergoing mitosis in regenerating liver. Thus, this protein is expressed in a cell cycle-dependent manner during liver regeneration, and is thought to have an important role in the regulation of cytokinesis.

Description:
The SN5c antibody is specific for human CD10, a 100 kDa type II transmembrane protein also known as Common Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Antigen (CALLA). In normal cells, it is expressed on early B and T lymphoid precursors, neutrophils and on various epithelia. CD10 is also expressed on several lymphoma cells including Burkitt's, acute lymphoblastic, and follicular germinal center lymphomas. CD10 functions as an endopeptidase and is involved in B cell development, as well as a mediator of neutrophil inflammatory responses.

Description:
9(R)-HODE is one of several monohydroxylated products of linoleic acid. All known mammalian lipoxygenases appear to catalyze the oxygenation of arachidonic and linoleic acid to give products having strictly the (S) configuration at the site of oxygen insertion. However, both human umbilical vein endothelial cells and bovine aorta endothelial cells have been shown to produce 9(R)-HODE when incubated with linoleic acid.
The physiological function of 9(R)-HODE and the enzyme that catalyzes its formation have not been determined.
