Subunit of cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels, nonselective cation channels, which play important roles in both visual and olfactory signal transduction. When associated with CNGA1, it is involved in the regulation of ion flow into the rod photoreceptor outer segment (ROS), in response to light-induced alteration of the levels of intracellular cGMP. Isoform GARP2 is a high affinity rod photoreceptor phosphodiesterase (PDE6)-binding protein that modulates its catalytic properties: it is a regulator of spontaneous activation of rod PDE6, thereby serving to lower rod photoreceptor 'dark noise' and allowing these sensory cells to operate at the single photon detection limit.

CHRDL2 is a novel chordin like protein that can act as a BMP antagonist. Amember of the chordin family of proteins, it contains a signal peptide andthree CR (cysteine-rich repeat) domains. When expressed as a recombinantprotein it is secreted and binds to activin A, but not to BMP-2, -4, -6. Differential expression has been detected in developing chondrocytes, myoblasts, osteoblasts, and osteoarthritic joints. Complex alternative splicing of CHRDL2 potentially results in distinct isoforms that differ at their C termini, in the expression of signal peptide, and in the content of CR domains. CHRDL2 was originally characterized as a novel protein exclusively expressed in breast, lung, and colon tumors.

Recognizes a single protein of 33-34 kDa, identified as the prostate specific antigen (PSA). This MAb is highly specific to PSA and stains prostatic secretory and ductal epithelium in both normal and neoplastic tissues. PSA is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease (kallikrein family) exclusively produced by the prostate epithelium, and abundant in seminal fluid. PSA can be detected in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma. It is predominantly complexed to a liver-derived serine protease inhibitor, alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of serum PSA is complexed to ACT in prostate cancer than in benign prostate hyperplasia.

The innate immune system detects viral infection by recognizing various viral components and triggers antiviral responses. Like the toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3), the cytoplasmic helicase retinoic acid inducible gene protein 1 (RIG1/DDX58) recognizes double-stranded (ds) RNA, a molecular pattern associated with viral infection. Unlike TLR3 however, RIG1/DDX58 activates the kinases TBK1 and IKKe through the adaptor protein IPS1. These kinases then phosphorylate the transcription factors IRF3 and IRF7 which are essential for the expression of type-I interferons. RIG1/DDX58 is required for the production of interferons in response to RNA viruses including paramyxoviruses, influenza virus, and Japanese encephalitis virus.

ChREBP (Carbohydrate responsive element binding protein) is a transcription factor playing a critical role in the nutrient and hormonal regulation of genes encoding enzymes of glucose metabolism and lipogenesis pathways. It contains several domains including a nuclear localization signal (NLS) near the N-terminus, polyproline domains, a basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (b/HLH/Zip) and a leucine zipper like (zip-like) domain.ChREBP is ubiquitously detected in various tissues, with highest expression in liver, kidney and white and brown adipose tissue. Under basal conditions ChREBP is localized in the cytosol, translocating into the nucleus upon high glucose stimulation following its dephosphorylation of serine 196.
