Description:
PFKFB1 belongs to the family of bifunctional 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase:fructose-2,6-biphosphatase enzymes. It forms a homodimer that is involved in both the synthesis and degradation of fructose 2,6-bisphosphate. The activity of this enzyme is thought to regulate glucose homeostasis.

Description:
GEFT is a 580 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that is highly expressed in excitable tissues such as brain, heart and muscle, and weakly expressed in small intestine, colon, liver, placenta and lung. GEFT may play a role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization in different tissues since its activation induces formation of actin stress fibers. GEFT works as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the Rho family of small GTPases and links specifically to G alpha q/11-coupled receptors in Rho A activation. GEFT is an important regulator of processes involved in axon and dendrite formation. Involved in skeletal myogenesis, GEFT seems to be an exchange factor primarily for Rac 1 in neurons. Existing as two alternatively spliced variants, GEFT contains a DH (DBL-homology) domain and a PH domain.

Description:
Centrosomes are dynamic organelles involved in many aspects of cell function and growth. Centrosomes act as microtubule organizing centers, and provide a site for concerted regulation of cell cycle progression. Duplication of centrosomes occurs once during each cell cycle and requires proper mitotic spindle formation and chromosome segregation. Defects in centrosome duplication or function are linked to many human diseases, including various forms of cancer. The centrosome and spindle pole-associated protein 1 (CSPP1) interacts with centrosomes and microtubules and may play a role in the regulation of G(1)/S-phase progression and spindle assembly. Two isoforms of CSPP1 exist as a result of alternative splicing events. Isoform 1 expression increases throughout the cell cycle and peaks in G2/M phase, whereas isoform 2 expression is highest in G1 phase and decreases thereafter.

Description:
BTBD1 contains a proline-rich region and a BTB/POZ domain which are typically involved in protein-protein interactions. The C-terminus of BTBD1 binds topoisomerase I and BTBD1 also interacts with TRIM5 isoform Delta. BTBD1 localizes to cytoplasmic bodies and is essential for myogenic differentiation.

Description:
Involved in the biosynthesis of L2/HNK-1 carbohydrate epitope on glycoproteins. Can also play a role in glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis. Substrates include asialo-orosomucoid (ASOR), asialo-fetuin, and asialo-neural cell adhesion molecule. Requires sphingomyelin for activity: stearoyl-sphingomyelin was the most effective, followed by palmitoyl-sphingomyelin and lignoceroyl-sphingomyelin. Activity was demonstrated only for sphingomyelin with a saturated fatty acid and not for that with an unsaturated fatty acid, regardless of the length of the acyl group (By similarity).

Description:
Probable catalytic subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, an endoprotease complex that catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins such as Notch receptors and APP (beta-amyloid precursor protein). Requires the other members of the gamma-secretase complex to have a protease activity. May play a role in intracellular signaling and gene expression or in linking chromatin to the nuclear membrane. Stimulates cell-cell adhesion though its association with the E-cadherin/catenin complex. Under conditions of apoptosis or calcium influx, cleaves E-cadherin promoting the disassembly of the E-cadherin/catenin complex and increasing the pool of cytoplasmic beta-catenin, thus negatively regulating Wnt signaling. May also play a role in hematopoiesis (By similarity).

Description:
Microtubule-stabilizing protein that may play an important role during reorganization of microtubules during polarization and differentiation of epithelial cells. Associates with microtubules in a dynamic manner. May play a role in the formation of intercellular contacts. Colocalization with TRPV4 results in the redistribution of TRPV4 toward the membrane and may link cytoskeletal microfilaments.

Description:
Component of the epithelial apical junction complex that may function as an homophilic cell adhesion molecule and is essential for tight junction integrity. Also involved in transepithelial migration of leukocytes through adhesive interactions with AMICA1/JAML a transmembrane protein of the plasma membrane of leukocytes. The interaction between both receptors also mediates the activation of gamma-delta T-cells, a subpopulation of T-cells residing in epithelia and involved in tissue homeostasis and repair. Upon epithelial CXADR-binding, AMICA1 induces downstream cell signaling events in gamma-delta T-cells through PI3-kinase and MAP kinases. It results in proliferation and production of cytokines and growth factors by T-cells that in turn stimulate epithelial tissues repair.
