Phosphorylates its own inhibitors, the protein phosphatase type 1 (PP1) isoforms, to inhibit their activity. Necessary for proper cilia disassembly prior to mitosis.

Dectin 2 is a type II transmembrane protein that is a member of the C type lectin superfamily. In mouse, dectin 2 is predominantly expressed on tissue macrophages and some dendritic cells. Significant expression of Dectin 2 has been reported on macrophages in the red pulp and marginal zones of the spleen, kupffer cells in the liver and alveolar macrophages in the lung. Peripheral blood monocytes express low levels of dectin 2 but transient up regulation of expression has been demonstrated on monocytes at sites of inflammation. The function of dectin 2 has not been fully determined but studies suggest a possible role in immune surveillance.

Chromosome 9 consists of about 145 million bases and 4% of the human genome and encodes nearly 900 genes. Considered to play a role in gender determination, deletion of the distal portion of 9p can lead to development of male to female sex reversal, the phenotype of a female with a male X,Y genotype. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is characterised by harmful vascular defects, is associated with the chromosome 9 gene encoding endoglin protein, ENG. Familial dysautonomia is also associated with chromosome 9 though through the gene IKBKAP. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster. Chromosome 9 is partnered with chromosome 22 in the translocation leading to the aberrant production of BCR-ABL fusion protein often found in leukemias. The C9orf85 gene product has been provisionally designated C9orf85 pending further characterisation. There are three isoforms of C9orf85 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

A member of the sulfatase family, GNS assists in the catabolism of heparin, and binds calcium as a cofactor. GNS deficiency results in an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder known as mucopolysaccharidosis type IIID (Sanfilippo D syndrome), which is characterized by mild somatic disease and severe degeneration of the central nervous system. CD135 is a tyrosine kinase receptor expressed on normal cells including CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells, myelomonocytic progenitors, primitive B cell progenitors, and thymocytes. CD135 is also expressed on malignant hematopoietic cells including AML, ALL and CML BC. CD135, also known as FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3, FLT3, STK1, and Flk2, is a growth factor receptor that binds the FLT3 ligand to promote the growth and differentiation of primitive hematopoietic cells. The intracytoplasmic domain of CD135 is modified by phosphorylation and has been shown to interact with Grb2, SOCS1, VAV1, and Shc. In humans, expression of Flt3 is restricted to subsets of CD34 positive as well as CD34 negative normal bone marrow cells. In these cells, the level of expression of Flt3 is rather low. Most of the CD34 bright Flt3+ cells co-express CD117 at high levels. They may represent early cycling, but not quiescent stem cells. Flt3+ cells in the CD34lo and CD34- populations do not co-express CD117 molecule and may represent B lymphoid precursors.
