Description:   HkRP3, also known as CCDC88B (coiled-coil domain-containing protein 88B) or BRLZ (brain leucine zipper domain-containing protein), is a 1,476 amino acid protein that belongs to the CCDC88 family. Members of the hook-related protein family are characterized by the presence of a C-terminal hook-related domain and an N-terminal potential microtubule binding domain. HkRP3 may be involved in the linkage of various organelles to microtubules, and exists as six alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding HkRP3 maps to human chromosome 11q13.1 and mouse chromosome 19 A. Chromosome 11 houses over 1,400 genes and comprises nearly 4% of the human genome. Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome are associated with defects in genes that maps to chromosome 11.

Description:   EFHC2 contains 3 DM10 domains, followed by 3 putative EF-hand motifs. There are two named isoforms produced by alternative splicing. EFHC2 can be used as a quantitative trait locus for fear recognition in Turner syndrome.EF-HC2 is a 749 amino acid protein containing three DM10 domains and an EF-hand domain. EF-HC2 shares 41.6% homology with EF-HC1, and is widely expressed in peripheral tissues and central nervous system. The gene encoding EF-HC2 maps to human chromosome Xp11.3 and is critical for recognition of facial fear and harm avoidance. Turner syndrome, characterized by deficits in social cognition and recognition of facial fear, has been linked to the EF-HC2 gene. Deletion of the EF-HC2 gene may be associated with Norrie disease, an X-linked disorder that primarily effects the eye, and may also be linked to juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. EF-HC2 exists as two isoforms due to alternative splicing events.

Description:   BEGAIN is a 593 amino acid protein that localizes to cytoplasm and membrane. BEGAIN interacts with PSD-95 and SAPAP1 and forms a ternary complex and may sustain the structure of the postsynaptic density (PSD). BEGAIN is a novel PSD component associated with the core complex of PSD-95 and SAPAP. Because BEGAIN and SAPAP interact with the same region of PSD-95, BEGAIN and SAPAP may compete for the binding to PSD-95 and cannot interact with PSD-95 simultaneously. The C-terminal region of BEGAIN is involved in the interaction with PSD-95 whereas the N-terminal region has a coiled-coil structure that may interact with other molecules. BEGAIN is specifically expressed in brain and enriched in the PSD fraction. BEGAIN is also expressed in neurons and enriched at synaptic junctions, and is likely involved in the organization of synaptic junction components.

Description:   The UNC5H family of proteins act as transmembrane receptors for netrin-1 and play a crucial role in axon guidance and migration of neural cells. In fact, UNC5H receptors express widely in cells that migrate, where they bind the G protein G Alpha 1-2 to inhibit G protein Signalling. Additionally, UNC5H receptors induce apoptosis when cleaved by a caspase, producing an intracellular fragment containing a death domain, but this activity is blocked by the binding of netrin-1. The expression of UNC5H receptors is down-regulated in multiple cancers, including colorectal, breast, ovary, uterus, stomach, lung, and kidney cancers. Hence, in the absence of netrin-1, UNC5H receptors act as tumour suppressors by inhibiting anchorage-independent growth and invasion, but mutation of these receptors provides a potential mechanism for tumourigenicity. UNC5H2, also designated unc-5 homolog B or p53-regulated receptor for death and life protein 1 (p53RDL1) is highly expressed in brain with lower levels of expression observed in developing lung, cartilage, kidney and hematopoietic and immune tissues.

Description:   p130 is related both in structure and function to the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein and p107 (collectively known as pocket proteins) and is known to regulate the activity of E2F transcription factors. E2F transcription factors regulate the expression of a number of genes important in cell proliferation, particularly those involved in the progression through G1 and into the S phase of the cell cycle. Binding of p130 converts E2F transcription factors from transcriptional activators to transcriptional repressors.

Description:   BXDC2 is a 306 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene BXDC2. BXDC2 is a nuclear protein that contains one Brix domain. Brix domain containing proteins represent a family of proteins involved in the biogenesis of large ribosomal subunits. The Brix domain is a region that is homologous to the yeast protein Pitx1 (Ribosome biogenesis protein BRX1). Pitx1 is part of a complex that includes BXDC5, BXDC1 and PPAN. This complex is required for the biogenesis of the 60S ribosomal subunit. BXDC2 exhibits the same functions as Pitx1.
