Description:   Histone H1 protein binds to linker DNA between nucleosomes forming the macromolecular structure known as the chromatin fiber. Histones H1 are necessary for the condensation of nucleosome chains into higher-order structured fibers. Acts also as a regulator of individual gene transcription through chromatin remodeling, nucleosome spacing and DNA methylation (By similarity).

Description:   Receptor for TNFSF6/FASLG. The adapter molecule FADD recruits caspase-8 to the activated receptor. The resulting death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) performs caspase-8 proteolytic activation which initiates the subsequent cascade of caspases (aspartate-specific cysteine proteases) mediating apoptosis. FAS-mediated apoptosis may have a role in the induction of peripheral tolerance, in the antigen-stimulated suicide of mature T-cells, or both. The secreted isoforms 2 to 6 block apoptosis (in vitro).

Description:   CLLD6, is a 196 amino acid protein that contains one B30.2/SPRY domain. Expression of CLLD6 is found at highest levels in heart, skeletal muscle and testis, with lower levels found in thymus, peripheral blood leukocytes, lymph node and bone marrow. Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, CLLD6 maps to human chromosome 13, which comprises nearly 4% of human DNA and contains about 114 million base pairs and 400 genes. Key tumor suppressor genes on chromosome 13 include the breast cancer susceptibility gene, BRCA2, and the RB1 (retinoblastoma) gene. RB1 encodes a crucial tumor suppressor protein which, when defective, leads to malignant growth in the retina and has been implicated in a variety of other cancers. The gene SLITRK1, which is associated with Tourette syndrome, is on chromosome 13. As with most chromosomes, polysomy of part or all of chromosome 13 is deleterious to development and decreases the odds of survival.

Description:   GPR120, a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), is a 377 amino acid protein which is expressed in the intestine. GPR120 is a receptor for unsaturated long-chain FFAs (free fatty acids). FFAs act as signaling molecules and are an important energy source. They also employ various physiological responses through their GPCRs. One such response occurs when dietary FFAs stimulate GPR120. This stimulation promotes the secretion of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) in vivo and in vitro. GLP-1 belongs to the class of molecules known as the incretins, which are associated with insulin secreted from the pancreas as a result of food intake. GLP-1 also inhibits glucagon and gastric acid secretion and gastric emptying. Consequently, the role of GPR120 in the secretion of GLP-1 is critical in the treatment of diabetes.

Description:   Gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors mediate inhibitory neurotransmission in the mammalian central nervous system. The receptor exists as a pentameric ion channel composed by heteromeric combinations of alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, theta, or pi subunits. Only specific subunit combinations produce viable receptors, while others never translocate to the cell surface from the ER where they are synthesized, and subsequently degraded. The theta subunit forms a receptor in combination with alpha3 subunits in monoaminergic cell groups. These receptors, found especially in the septum, preoptic areas, hypothalamic nuclei, amygdala and thalamus, likely have unique pharmacological properties linked to their expression in this particular cell type and not cholinergic cell groups, and may play a role in opiate withdrawl symptoms.

Description:   GPRC6A (G protein-coupled receptor family C group 6 member A) is a 928 amino acid protein encoded by the mouse Gprc6a gene. GPRC6A is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor 3 family. This receptor is activated by both amino acids and extracellular concentration of calcium ions. The activity of GPRC6A is mediated by a G protein that activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. GPRC6A senses changes in the extracellular concentration of calcium ions, suggesting that it may mediate extracellular calcium-sensing responses in osteoblasts. Osteocalin stimulates the activity of GPRC6A in the presence of calcium. GPRC6A also acts as a receptor for amino acids, with a preference for basic amino acids such as L-Lys, L-Arg and L-ornithine. Its affinity for amino acids suggests that it may act as a regulatory component of the urea cycle. GPRC6A is expressed at high levels in liver, lung, spleen and heart, and at lower levels in kidney, skeletal muscle and brain.

Description:   Ubiquitination is an important mechanism through which three classes of enzymes act in concert to target short-lived or abnormal proteins for destruction. The three classes of enzymes involved in ubiquitination are the ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s), the ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s) and the ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s). MARCH3 (membrane-associated ring finger (C3HC4) 3), also known as RNF173, is a 253 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that localizes to cytoplasmic vesicles and early endosomes and contains one RING-CH-type zinc finger. Involved in the pathway of protein modification, MARCH3 functions as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that accepts a ubiquitin residue from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme and is thought to be involved in endosomal trafficking events.

Expressed in a variety of tissues, MARCH2 functions as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that is thought to mediate the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of CD71 and B7-2 and may be involved in endosomal protein trafficking.

Description:   The protein encoded by this gene is a serine-threonine kinase, belonging to the glycogen synthase kinase subfamily. It is involved in energy metabolism, neuronal cell development, and body pattern formation. Polymorphisms in this gene have been implicated in modifying risk of Parkinson disease, and studies in mice show that overexpression of this gene may be relevant to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Description:   PP2A is the major phosphatase for microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs). PP2A can modulate the activity of phosphorylase B kinase casein kinase 2, mitogen-stimulated S6 kinase, and MAP-2 kinase. Cooperates with SGOL2 to protect centromeric cohesin from separase-mediated cleavage in oocytes specifically during meiosis I (By similarity). Can dephosphorylate SV4 large T antigen and p53/TP53. Activates RAF1 by dephosphorylating it at 'Ser-259'.

Description:   This gene encodes a subunit of the elongation factor-1complex, which is responsible for the enzymatic delivery ofaminoacyl tRNAs to the ribosome. This subunit, delta, functions asguanine nucleotide exchange factor. It is reported that followingHIV-1 infection, this subunit interacts with HIV-1 Tat. Thisinteraction results in repression of translation of host cellproteins and enhanced translation of viral proteins. Severalalternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multipleisoforms have been found for this gene. Related pseudogenes havebeen defined on chromosomes 1, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17, 19.[provided byRefSeq, Aug 2010].
