Description:
Catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of galactose residues of keratan. It has a preference for sulfating keratan sulfate, but it also transfers sulfate to the unsulfated polymer. The sulfotransferase activity on sialyl LacNAc structures is much higher than the corresponding desialylated substrate, and only internal galactose residues are sulfated. It also may function in the sulfation of sialyl N-acetyllactosamine oligosaccharide chains attached to glycoproteins. It participates in biosynthesis of selectin ligands. Selectin ligands are present in high endothelial cells (HEVs) and play a central role in lymphocyte homing at sites of inflammation. Aggrecan is the major proteoglycan of human articular cartilage. The core protein is substituted by a number of keratan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycan chains. Whereas chondroitin sulfate is widely distributed throughout the body, keratan sulfate is primarily expressed in cartilage (joints, trachea, intervertebral discs) and cornea.

Description:
DeltaD is one of the 4 members of the zebrafish Delta family of Notch ligands, important in the control of cell differentiation in many tissues.DeltaD acts as a ligand for Notch receptors and is involved in primary neurogenesis and somitogenesis. It can activate Notch receptors, thereby playing a key role in lateral inhibition, a process that prevents the immediate neighbors of each nascent neural cell from simultaneously embarking on neural differentiation. It is required in somite segmentation to keep the oscillations of neighboring presomitic mesoderm cells synchronized.

Description:
Hemagglutinin (HA) is a class I viral fusion protein from Influenza virus. It is a major glycoprotein, comprising over 80% of the envelope proteins present in the virus particle. HA binds to sialic acid-containing receptors on the cell surface, bringing about the attachment of the virus particle to the cell, and is responsible for penetration of the virus into the cell cytoplasm by mediating the fusion of the membrane of the endocytosed virus particle with the endosomal membrane. The extent of infection into host organism is determined by HA. In natural infection, inactive HA is matured into HA1 and HA2 outside the cell by one or more trypsin-like, arginine-specific endoproteases secreted by the bronchial epithelial cells. The HA protein is a homotrimer of disulfide-linked HA1-HA2. It also plays a major role in the determination of host range restriction and virulence. Genetic variation of hemagglutinin and/or neuraminidase genes results in the emergence of new influenza strains.

Description:
E7 protein has both transforming and trans-activating activities. Disrupts the function of host retinoblastoma protein RB1/pRb, which is a key regulator of the cell cycle. Induces the disassembly of the E2F1 transcription factors from RB1, with subsequent transcriptional activation of E2F1-regulated S-phase genes. Inactivation of the ability of RB1 to arrest the cell cycle is critical for cellular transformation, uncontrolled cellular growth and proliferation induced by viral infection. Stimulation of progression from G1 to S phase allows the virus to efficiently use the cellular DNA replicating machinery to achieve viral genome replication. Interferes with histone deacetylation mediated by HDAC1 and HDAC2, leading to activation of transcription (By similarity).

Description:
Serine/threonine kinase which acts as an essential component of the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. Plays an important role in the cascades of cellular responses evoked by changes in the environment. Once activated, acts as an upstream activator of the MKK/JNK signal transduction cascade through the phosphorylation of MAP2K4/MKK4 and MAP2K7/MKK7 which in turn activate the JNKs. The MKK/JNK signaling pathway regulates stress response via activator protein-1 (JUN) and GATA4 transcription factors. Plays also a role in mitochondrial death signaling pathway, including the release cytochrome c, leading to apoptosis.

Description:
The c Abl proto oncogene encodes a protein tyrosine kinase that is located in the cytoplasm and nucleus. In chronic myelogenous leukemia and in a subset of acute lymphoblastic leukemias, the c Abl proto oncogene undergoes a (9;22) chromosomal translocation producing a novel rearranged chromosome (the Philadelphia chromosome) As the result of the fusion of c Abl sequences from chromosome 9 to the Bcr gene on chromosome 22. The molecular consequence of this translocation is the generation of a chimeric Bcr/Abl mRNA encoding activated Abl protein tyrosine kinase.

DDAH, a dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase, hydrolyzes dimethyl arginine (ADMA) and monomethyl arginine (MMA), both inhibitors of nitric oxide synthases, and may be involved in in-vivo modulation of nitric oxide production (1,2). Impairment of DDAH causes ADMA accumulation and a reduction in cGMP generation (3). DDAH II, the predominant DDAH isoform in endothelial cells, facilitates the induction of nitric oxide synthesis by all-trans-Retinoic acid (atRA) (4). DDAH proteins are highly expressed in colon, kidney, stomach and liver tissues (1).

UBC3B is a ubiquitous and pleiotropic Ser/Thr protein kinase involved in cell growth and transformation. This gene encodes a protein similar to the E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme UBC3/CDC34. Studies suggest that CK2-dependent phosphorylation of this ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme functions by regulating beta-TrCP substrate recognition and induces its interaction with beta-TrCP, enhancing beta-catenin degradation.

Description:
IGSF11 is also known as BTIGSF (brain and testis-specific immunoglobulin superfamily protein) or VSIG3 (V-set and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein 3) and is a 431 amino acid protein that is expressed as three isoforms. IGSF11 is highly expressed in testis and ovary and is also expressed in brain, kidney and skeletal muscle, localized to the cellular membrane as a single-pass membrane protein. IGSF11 is an immunoglobulin with V-type and C2-type domains that function in molecular recognition. When IGSF11 is in the trans position, it plays an important role in cell-cell adhesion via both homophilic and heterophilic interactions with other molecules. These cell–cell interactions are also thought to be important for neuronal cell interactions, such as neuron–neuron or neuron–glia interactions, which are important for the development and function of the central nervous system. In addition, IGSF11 might also be involved interactions between Sertoli cells and spermatocytes, which are important associations during spermatogenesis. The IGSF11 gene is commonly upregulated in gastric cancer and IGSF11 is highly expressed in many types of human tumors, indicating that it may be useful as a target for immunotherapy.
