Description:
POMT1 (Protein O mannosyl transferase 1) is a multipass membrane protein that is found in the endoplasmic reticulum. POMT1 catalyses the transfer of mannosyl residues to the hydroxyl groups of serine or threonine residues. Enzymatic activity is dependent on co expression of POMT1 with POMT2. Defects in the POMT1 gene are associated with Walker-Warburg syndrome (WWS), a congential muscular dystrophy that is associated with mental retardation and is usually lethal within the first few months of life. Other defects in the POMT1 gene result in limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2K (LGMD2K), which is associated with mild mental retardation. Studies in Drosophila suggest that mutation of POMT1 alters the efficacy of synaptic transmission and a change in subunit composition of post synaptic glutamate receptors at the neuromuscular junction. Missense mutations in POMT1 have been associated with glioneuronal and glial brain tumours.

Description:
Exchange factor for GTP-binding proteins RhoA, RhoG and, to a lesser extent, Rac1. Binds physically to the nucleotide-free states of those GTPases (By similarity). Plays an important role in angiogenesis. Its recruitment by phosphorylated EPHA2 is critical for EFNA1-induced RAC1 GTPase activation and vascular endothelial cell migration and assembly. May be important for integrin-mediated signaling, at least in some cell types. In osteoclasts, along with SYK tyrosine kinase, required for signaling through integrin alpha-v/beta-1 (ITAGV-ITGB1), a crucial event for osteoclast proper cytoskeleton organisation and function. This signaling pathway involves RAC1, but not RHO, activation. Necessary for proper wound healing. In the course of wound healing, required for the phagocytotic cup formation preceding macrophage phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils. Responsible for integrin beta-2-mediated macrophage adhesion and, to a lesser extent, contributes to beta-3-mediated adhesion. Does not affect integrin beta-1-mediated adhesion.

Description:
Appears to be a potent inhibitor of regeneration following spinal cord injury.Nogo is an oligodendrocyte-specific member of the Reticulon family and is a component of CNS white matter that inhibits axon outgrowth, induces collapse of growth cones of chick dorsal root ganglion cells, and inhibits the spreading of 3T3 fibroblasts. Nogo is expressed by oligodendrocytes but not by Schwann cells, and associates primarily with the endoplasmic reticulum. Nogo exists in three different splice forms, Nogo-A, -B and -C. NIMP (NOGO-interacting mitochondrial protein), also known as RTN4IP1 (Reticulon-4-interacting protein 1), is a 396 amino acid mitochondrial protein that contains a C-terminal oxidoreductaselike domain and numerous sites for phosphorylation. NIMP is expressed in mitochondrial-rich tissue such as kidney, heart, skeletal muscle and specific regions within the nervous system. Through interaction with Nogo, it is likely that NIMP plays a role in Nogo-induced inhibition of neurite growth. There are three isoforms of NIMP that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:
The regulated oscillation of protein expression is an essential mechanism of cell cycle control. The SCF class of E3 ubiquitin ligases is involved in this process by targeting cell cycle regulatory proteins for degradation by the proteasome, with the F-box subunit of the SCF specifically recruiting a given substrate to the SCF core. NIPA (nuclear interaction partner of ALK) is a human F-box-containing protein that defines an SCF-type E3 ligase (SCFNIPA) controlling mitotic entry. Assembly of this SCF complex is regulated by cell-cycle-dependent phosphorylation of NIPA, which restricts substrate ubiquitination activity to interphase. Nuclear cyclin B1 is a substrate of SCFNIPA. Inactivation of NIPA by RNAi results in nuclear accumulation of cyclin B1 in interphase, activation of cyclin B1-Cdk1 kinase activity, and premature mitotic entry. Thus, SCFNIPA-based ubiquitination may regulate S-phase completion and mitotic entry in the mammalian cell cycle.

Estradiol (known as alpha Estradiol or 17 alpha Estradiol) is a biologically active estrogen in human breast cancer cells in tissue culture.17-estradiol and its selective receptor, ER-X, are not part of a classical hormone/receptor endocrine system but of a system with important autocrine/paracrine functions in the developing and adult brain. 17-Estradiol may have enormous implications for hormone replacement strategies at the menopause and in the treatment of such neurodegenerative disorders as Alzheimer?s disease and ischemic stroke.

Description:
SNF2L, also known as SMARCA1 (SWI/SNF related, matrix associated, actin dependent regulator of chromatin, subfamily a, member 1), SWI or ISWI, is a 1,054 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains one helicase C-terminal domain, one helicase ATP-binding domain and two SANT domains. Expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, SNF2L exists as a component of the nucleosome-remodeling factor (NURF) complex where it helps to facilitate the ATP-dependent perturbation of chromatin structure and may also be involved in brain development and neurite outgrowth. The gene encoding SNF2L maps to human chromosome X, which contains nearly 153 million base pairs and houses over 1,000 genes.
