G proteins are composed of 3 units, alpha, beta and gamma and are involved in the modulation and transduction of various transmembrane signalling systems. There are families of related genes for each subunit. GNB3 encodes a beta subunit. Beta subunits are required for GTPase activity, for replacement of GDP by GTP, regulate alpha subunits and for G protein-effector interactions. A single-nucleotide polymorphism (C825T) in this gene is associated with essential hypertension and obesity and is also associated with the occurrence of the splice variant GNB3-s, which appears to have increased activity.

This gene is one of several genes encoding pulmonary-surfactant associated proteins (SFTPA) located on chromosome 10. Mutations in this gene and a highly similar gene located nearby, which affect the highly conserved carbohydrate recognition domain, are associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The current version of the assembly displays only a single centromeric SFTPA gene pair rather than the two gene pairs shown in the previous assembly which were thought to have resulted from a duplication. c-Met, a member of the tyrosine kinase superfamily, is the receptor for hepatocyte growth factor, also known as scatter factor (HGF/SF). The mature c-Met protein is a disulfide-linked heterodimer with Mr=190 kDa composed of a heavily glycosylated alpha subunit that is completely extracellular in localization, and a beta subunit comprising an extracellular ligand binding domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase domain. Cells expressing c-Met include epithelial cells, endothelial cells, blood cells of various types, and glomerular mesenchymal cells.

Perilipin is an intracellular neutral lipid droplet protein that is hormonally regulated. This protein is localized exclusively to the surface of lipid droplets. In response to lypotic stimuli, perilipin is phosphorylated by protein kinase A. Once activated, perilipin has inhibitory affects upon hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), a protein that mediates the hydrolysis of triacylglycerol, the major form of stored energy in the body. Perilipin expression is limited to adipocytes and steroidogenic cells. There are currently two known isoforms, Perilipin A and B. Both of these proteins are encoded by a single-copy gene and are the result of differential splicing events.

T4 UvsX DNA recombinase mediates DNA strand exchange between homologous chromosomes. The protein forms a right-handed nucleoprotein complex on single ssDNA called the presynaptic filament that can search for homology in duplex DNA and pair the recombining DNA molecules to form a DNA joint molecule. Recognizes a sialoglycoprotein of 39 kDa, identified as glycophorin A (GPA). It is present on red blood cells (RBC) and erythroid precursor cells. It has been shown that glycophorin acts as the receptor for Sandei virus and parvovirus. Glycophorins A (GPA) and B (GPB), which are single, trans-membrane sialoglycoproteins. GPA is the carrier of blood group M and N specificities, while GPB accounts for S and U specificities. GPA and GPB provide the cells with a large mucin like surface and it has been suggested this provides a barrier to cell fusion, so minimizing aggregation between red blood cells in the circulation.

IL-1R9 is a member of the interleukin-1/Toll-like receptor family expressed in fetal brain. It is a single pass transmembrane protein with a highly conserved cytoplasmic region that is slightly longer than that of other family members. IL-1R9 is highly homologous to IL-1R8 and the IL-1 accessory protein receptor chains. The genes encoding IL-1R9 and IL-1R8 are both found on the X-chromosome in the region associated with X-linked non-syndromic mental retardation. Unlike other family members, IL-1R9 and IL-1R8 do not activate NF-kB.
