Description:
Calcyon is a single transmembrane protein that interacts with D1 dopamine receptors. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that regulates synaptic transmission involved in learning and memory. D1 receptors, the most abundant dopamine receptor in the central nervous system, appear to modulate the activity of D2 dopamine receptors, mediate various behavioural responses, and regulate neuron growth and differentiation. Calcyon is present in neuronal cell bodies and processes of the cortex and hippocampus, and it is especially abundant in pyramidal neurons. Interaction of Calcyon with D1 receptors results in a release of intracellular calcium.

Relaxin is a peptide hormone produced by the corpora lutea of ovaries during pregnancy in many mammalian species, including man. The secretion of the hormone into the blood stream just before parturition results in a marked softening and lengthening of the pubic symphysis and a softening of the cervix, which facilitates the birth process. By inhibiting uterine contractions, relaxin may influence the timing of parturition. Like insulin, relaxin consists of two peptide chains, A and B, covalently linked by disulfide bonds. By further analogy to insulin, the two peptides are synthesized as a single-chain precursor polypeptide with the B chain at the NH2-terminus.

It is a single pass transmembrane protein with a highly conserved cytoplasmic region that is slightly longer than that of other family members. IL-1R9 is highly homologous to IL-1R8 and the IL-1 accessory protein receptor chains. The genes encoding IL-1R9 and IL-1R8 are both found on the X-chromosome in the region associated with X-linked non-syndromic mental retardation. Perilipin is an intracellular neutral lipid droplet protein that is hormonally regulated. This protein is localized exclusively to the surface of lipid droplets. In response to lypotic stimuli, perilipin is phosphorylated by protein kinase A. Once activated, perilipin has inhibitory affects upon hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), a protein that mediates the hydrolysis of triacylglycerol, the major form of stored energy in the body. Perilipin expression is limited to adipocytes and steroidogenic cells. There are currently two known isoforms, Perilipin A and B. Both of these proteins are encoded by a single-copy gene and are the result of differential splicing events.
