Description:
IL2 Receptor beta (CD122) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that forms the high affinity IL2 receptor with CD25 and CD132. This receptor chain, which is also shared by the IL15 receptor, is constitutively expressed by NK cells and at lower levels by T cells, B cells, monocytes, and macrophages. The IL2 Receptor beta chain can combine with either the common gamma subunit (gamma c) alone or the gamma c subunit and the IL2 Receptor alpha subunit to generate intermediate or high affinity IL2 receptor complexes, respectively. CD122 levels can be upregulated by activation stimuli such as IL2.

The serum amyloid A (SAA) superfamily comprises a number of differentially expressed genes with a high degree of homology in mammalian species. SAA4, an apolipoprotein constitutively expressed only in humans and mice, is associated almost entirely with lipoproteins of the high density range. Its physiological function is unknown and its serum concentration has no relationship with those of other major apolipoproteins. The presence of SAA4 mRNA and protein in macrophage derived foam cells of coronary and carotid arteries suggested a specific role of human SAA4 during inflammation including atherosclerosis.

Adducins are a family of cytoskeletal proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta, gamma). Adducin is a heterodimeric protein that consists of related subunits, which are produced from distinct genes but share a similar structure. Alpha and beta adducin include a protease-resistant N-terminal region and a protease-sensitive, hydrophilic C-terminal region. Alpha and gamma adducins are ubiquitously expressed. In contrast, beta adducin is expressed at high levels in brain and hematopoietic tissues. Adducin binds with high affinity to Ca2+/calmodulin and is a substrate for protein kinases A and C. Alternative splicing results in multiple variants encoding distinct isoforms; however, not all variants have been fully described.

The PDGF Receptor Type A (Alpha platelet-derived growth factor receptor precursor, CD140a antigen), a 170kD protein, binds all three isoforms of PDGF with high affinity whereas the PDGF Receptor Type B, a 190kD protein, appears to bind only the PDGF BB homodimer with high affinity. Both receptors are transmembranous, ligand activated protein tyrosine kinases, which phosphorylate a number of important signal transduction proteins, which are bound with differential affinities via SH2 domains. The response of any given cell to PDGF will depend on the types of receptors displayed on the surface and isoforms of PDGF present in the extracellular environment.

IGSF1 has been shown to act as a coreceptor in inhibin signaling, however, it does not appear to be a high-affinity inhibin receptor by itself. May reduce or inhibit activin A signaling and is believed to be necessary in the mediation of specific effects of inhibin B on activin-stimulated transcription. IGSF1 has been found to interact with several members of the ACVR family and possibly some members of the BMPR group. There are 3 known isoforms of IGSF1, with 1 and 2 likely being multi-pass membrane proteins. Isoform 3 is believed to be expressed as a secreted form. Expression is high in pancreas, testis and fetal liver, while heart, prostate and small intestine show only moderate expression. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) removes phosphate groups from the 5' end of DNA and RNA, and from proteins, at high pH. Most mammals have 4 different isozymes: placental, placental like, intestinal and non tissue specific (found in liver, kidney and bone). Tissues with particularly high concentrations of ALP include the liver, bile ducts, placenta, and bone. Damaged or diseased tissue releases enzymes into the blood, so serum ALP measurements can be abnormal in many conditions, including bone disease and liver disease.
