Description:
This MAb reacts with an extracellular domain (close to transmembrane) of CD56/NCAM. Three isoforms of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) are produced by differential splicing of the RNA transcript from a single gene. The 135 kDa isoform is the basic molecule, which is glycosylated or sialylated to produce the mature species. Anti-CD56 recognizes two proteins of the neural cell adhesion molecule, the basic molecule expressed on most neuroectodermally derived tissues and neoplasms (e.g. retinoblastoma, medulloblastomas, astrocytomas, neuroblastomas, and small cell carcinomas). It is also expressed on some mesodermally derived tumors (rhabdomyosarcoma). Anti-CD56 plays an important role in the diagnosis of nodal and nasal NK/T-cell lymphomas.

Description:
Glycosyltransferases that mediate the regio- and stereoselective transfer of sugars, such as the fucosyltransferases, determine cell surface-carbohydrate profiles, which is an essential interface for biological recognition processes. Fucosyltransferases catalyze the covalent association of fucose to different positional linkages in sugar acceptor molecules. The carbohydrate moieties generated and covalently attached to cell surfaces are necessary to ensure a surface contour that satisfies physiological roles, which are reliant on adhesion molecules such as Selectins (1-3). Hematopoietic lineages rely on Fucosyltransferases to confer a surface carbohydrate phenotype, which mediates proper cell adhesion molecule recruitment and cell trafficking (4-6). Blood Group Lewis a is a carbohydrate determinant carried on both glycolipids and glycoproteins.

Description:
This gene encodes an enzyme belonging to the protein tyrosine kinase family, and it plays a role in T-cell development and lymphocyte activation. This enzyme, which is phosphorylated on tyrosine residues upon T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) stimulation, functions in the initial step of TCR-mediated signal transduction in combination with the Src family kinases, Lck and Fyn. This enzyme is also essential for thymocyte development. Mutations in this gene cause selective T-cell defect, a severe combined immunodeficiency disease characterized by a selective absence of CD8-positive T-cells. Two transcript variants that encode different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description:
ADRM1 is a 407 amino acid protein that localizes to both the nucleus and the cytoplasm and is thought to be involved in protein recruitment and cell adhesion. An integral membrane protein, ADRM1 functions to recruit UCH-L5, a deubiquitinating enzyme, to the 26S proteasome, and once at the proteasome it promotes the activity of UCH-L5. Additionally, ADRM1 is thought to mediate lymphocyte adhesion in endothelial cells and may thus play a role in lymphocyte homing. ADRM1 expression is induced by IFN-g in some cancer cell lines and its expression is upregulated in other metastatic cells, suggesting a role in carcinogenesis. Two isoforms of ADRM1 exist due to alternative splicing events.

Orphan receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) that plays a role in epithelial cell differentiation and regionalization of the proximal epididymal epithelium. May activate several downstream signaling pathways related to cell differentiation, proliferation, growth and survival including the PI3 kinase-mTOR signaling pathway. Mediates the phosphorylation of PTPN11, an activator of this pathway. May also phosphorylate and activate the transcription factor STAT3 to control anchorage-independent cell growth. Mediates the phosphorylation and the activation of VAV3, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor regulating cell morphology. May activate other downstream signaling proteins including AKT1, MAPK1, MAPK3, IRS1 and PLCG2.

Description:
Protocadherins are a large family of cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins that are involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal connections in the brain. There are three protocadherin gene clusters, designated alpha, beta and gamma, all of which contain multiple tandemly arranged genes. PCDH21 (protocadherin 21), also known as PRCAD, is an 859 amino acid single-pass membrane protein that localizes to the outer segments of photoreceptor cells and contains six cadherin domains. Existing as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, PCDH21 functions as a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein that is thought to be required for the structural integrity of photoreceptor cells and may be involved in the formation and maintenance of neuronal networks.

Description:
Cell adhesion molecule-related/down-regulated by oncogenes (CDO) and BOC (brother of CDO) are members of the immunoglobulin/fibronectin type III repeat family and act as cell surface receptors. CDO is a component of a cell-surface receptor complex which also contains BOC, NEO1, CTNNB1 and cadherins and which acts as a mediator of cell-cell interactions between muscle cells. CDO and BOC are single pass membrane proteins that play a role in myogenic cell differentiation. Together, CDO and BOC participate in a positive feedback loop with MyoD, a myogenic transcription factor. The 1,242 amino acid rat CDO protein has a 24 residue signal sequence, five Ig V-like repeats, a 25 residue membrane-spanning region, three FNIII-like repeats and a cytoplasmic region of 256 amino acids containing a proline-rich stretch. The human protein contains 1,225 amino acid residues and shares significant homology with the domain structures of the rat protein.

Description:
The CD28.6 antibody reacts with human CD28, a 44 kDa type I surface glycoprotein which acts as a co-stimulatory receptor in support of the T cell receptor (TCR). CD28 exists as a homodimer with specificity for two known ligands, known as B7-1 (CD80) and B7-2 (CD86), which are expressed on activated B cells and antigen-presenting cells. These ligands trigger CD28 signaling in concert with TCR activation to drive T cell proliferation, induce high-level expression of IL-2, impart resistance to apoptosis, and enhance T cell cytotoxicity. The interaction / co-stimulatory signaling between the B7 ligands and CD28 provides crucial communication between T cells and B cells or APCs to coordinate the adaptive immune response. The CD28.6 antibody is reported to have neutralizing activity and is also useful for western blotting.
