Reticulon 1A may be involved in neuroendocrine secretion or in membrane trafficking in neuroendocrine cells. It is expressed in neural and neuroendocrine tissues and cell cultures derived therefrom. Expression of isoform RTN1-C is strongly correlated with neuronal differentiation. Different isoforms have been described as a result of alternative splicing.

Description:
The function of PrP is still under debate. May play a role in neuronal development and synaptic plasticity. May be required for neuronal myelin sheath maintenance. May play a role in iron uptake and iron homeostasis (By similarity). Isoform 2 may act as a growth suppressor by arresting the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase. Soluble oligomers are toxic to cultured neuroblastoma cells and induce apoptosis (in vitro).

Description:
Siglec 7 is a member of the Siglec (sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin like lectin) subgroup of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Siglec 7 is able to mediate high levels of sialic acid-dependent binding to human erythrocytes and soluble sialoglycoconjugates. Addition of anti-Siglec 7 to haematopoietic cell cultures leads to reduced cell growth and prevents the development of dendritic cells. Predominantly expressed by resting and activated natural killer cells and at lower levels by granulocytes and monocytes. High expression can be found in tissues like the placenta, liver, lung, spleen, and peripheral blood leukocytes.

Description:
The Pax gene family of nuclear transcription factors is comprised of nine members that function during embryogenesis to regulate the temporal and position-dependent differentiation of cells. In addition, the family is involved in a variety of signal transduction pathways in the adult organism. Mutations in the Pax family of proteins have been linked to disease and cancer in humans. Pax-7 is a protein specifically expressed in cultured satellite cell-derived myoblasts. In situ hybridization reveals that Pax-7 is also expressed in satellite cells residing in adult muscle. A chromosomal aberration in the gene encoding Pax-7 causes rhabdomyosarcoma 2 (RMS2) (also called alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma).

Description:
PLAG1 is a transcription factor whose activation results in upregulation of target genes, such as IGFII, leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation: when overexpressed in cultured cells, higher proliferation rate and transformation are observed. Other target genes such as CRLF1, CRABP2, CRIP2, PIGF are strongly induced in cells with PLAG1 induction. Proto oncogene whose ectopic expression can trigger the development of pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary gland and lipoblastomas. Overexpression is associated with upregulation of IGFII, is frequently observed in hepatoblastoma, common primary liver tumor in childhood. Cooperates with CBFB-MYH11, a fusion gene important for myeloid leukemia.

Description:
Fascin is a highly conserved actin-bundling protein. Fascin, encoded by the human homolog for sn (hsn) gene, has been localized to microspikes and stress fibers of cultured cells where it is thought to be involved in the formation of microfilament bundles. It is expressed predominantly in dendritic cells. Lymphoid cells, myeloid cells and plasma cells are negative. However, Reed Sternberg cells in Hodgkin’s lymphoma are positive for fascin staining. Epstein-Barr virus may induce expression of fascin in B cells.
