Description:
PLAG1 is a transcription factor whose activation results in upregulation of target genes, such as IGFII, leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation: when overexpressed in cultured cells, higher proliferation rate and transformation are observed. Other target genes such as CRLF1, CRABP2, CRIP2, PIGF are strongly induced in cells with PLAG1 induction. Proto oncogene whose ectopic expression can trigger the development of pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary gland and lipoblastomas. Overexpression is associated with upregulation of IGFII, is frequently observed in hepatoblastoma, common primary liver tumor in childhood. Cooperates with CBFB-MYH11, a fusion gene important for myeloid leukemia.

Description:
Cyclins, regulatory subunits, which associate with kinases, control many of the important steps in cell cycle progression. The Cdc2 protein kinase (p34Cdc2) exhibits protein kinase activity in vitro and exists in a complex with both cyclin B and a protein homologous to p13SUC1. Cdc2 kinase is the active subunit of the M phase promoting factor (MPF) and the M phase-specific Histone H1 kinase. The p34Cdc2/cyclin B complex is required for the G2 to M transition. An additional cell cycle-dependent protein kinase, termed p55cdc, exhibits a high degree of homology with the S. cerevisiae proteins Cdc20 and Cdc4. The p55cdc transcript is readily detectable in a variety of cultured cell lines in growth phase, but disappears when cell growth is chemically arrested.

Description:
Fibroblast growth factor-1 also designated basic FGF, are members of a family of growth factors that stimulate proliferation of cells of mesenchymal, epithe-lial and neuroectodermal origin. Additional members of the FGF family include the oncogenes FGF-3 (Int2) and FGF-4 (hst/Kaposi), FGF-5, FGF-6, FGF-7 (KGF), FGF-8 (AIGF), FGF-9 (GAF) and FGF-10–FGF-23. Members of the FGF family share 30-55% amino acid sequence identity and similar gene structure, and are capable of transforming cultured cells when overexpressed in transfected cells. Cellular receptors for FGFs are members of a second multigene family including four tyrosine kinases, designated Flg (FGFR-1), Bek (FGFR-L), TKF and FGFR-3.

Description:
Enolase 1 is a multifunctional enzyme that, as well as its role in glycolysis, plays a part in various processes such as growth control, hypoxia tolerance and allergic responses. May also function in the intravascular and pericellular fibrinolytic system due to its ability to serve as a receptor and activator of plasminogen on the cell surface of several cell-types such as leukocytes and neurons. Stimulates immunoglobulin production.MBP1 binds to the myc promoter and acts as a transcriptional repressor. May be a tumor suppressor.Enolase 2 has neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties on a broad spectrum of central nervous system (CNS) neurons. Binds, in a calcium-dependent manner, to cultured neocortical neurons and promotes cell survival.Enolase 3 appears to have a function in striated muscle development and regeneration.

Description:
The Pax gene family of nuclear transcription factors is comprised of nine members that function during embryogenesis to regulate the temporal and position-dependent differentiation of cells. In addition, the family is involved in a variety of signal transduction pathways in the adult organism. Mutations in the Pax family of proteins have been linked to disease and cancer in humans. Pax-7 is a protein specifically expressed in cultured satellite cell-derived myoblasts. In situ hybridization reveals that Pax-7 is also expressed in satellite cells residing in adult muscle. A chromosomal aberration in the gene encoding Pax-7 causes rhabdomyosarcoma 2 (RMS2) (also called alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma).

Description:
Talin, a multifunctional constituent of cell-substratum attachment sites, is a high molecular weight protein (225-270 kDa) found in variety of tissues and cell types. It is localised at a subset of adherens junctions, specialized cell-cell and cell-matrix associations that are characterised by the presence of filamentous actin at the cytoplasmic face of the junctional complex. In cultured cells, talin is absent from cell-cell junctions and found predominantly at adhesion plaques and in fibrillar streaks underlying cell surface fibronectin. Talin interacts with at least two other proteins that are localised at adhesion plaques, vinculin and integrin. Talin and vinculin have been shown to interact with each other and both have been proposed to be involved in generating the transmembrane connection, between the extracellular matrix and the cytoskeleton, that occurs at adhesion plaques. At physiological ionic strength, talin is an elongate, flexible, monomeric protein with the ability to self-associate into dimers at higher protein concentrations.

Description:
Adapter protein involved in asymmetrical cell division and cell polarization processes. Seems to play a central role in the formation of epithelial tight junctions. Targets the phosphatase PTEN to cell junctions. Involved in Schwann cell peripheral myelination (By similarity). Association with PARD6B may prevent the interaction of PARD3 with F11R/JAM1, thereby preventing tight junction assembly. The PARD6-PARD3 complex links GTP-bound Rho small GTPases to atypical protein kinase C proteins. Required for establishment of neuronal polarity and normal axon formation in cultured hippocampal neurons.
