Description:
Recognizes a protein of 40-45 kDa, identified as human milk fat globule membrane protein (HMFG). HMFG is present on normal human breast epithelial cells and cell lines derived from breast carcinomas, as well as to the outer surface of the human milk fat globule. HMFG is considered as a differentiation marker. It is useful as specific breast epithelial marker and can also provide a tool to study the role of the cell surface in normal and neoplastic mammary development.

Description:
LASS2 (LAG1 homolog, ceramide synthase 2) has sequence similarity to yeast longevity assurance gene 1. It is thought to be involved in sphingolipid synthesis. Expression of LASS2 is transiently increased during the period of active myelination and is specifically localized to white matter tracts of the brain, including the Schwann cells of sciatic nerves suggesting that LASS2 is important for the synthesis of dihydroceramide used for synthesis of myelin sphingolipids. Expression of LASS2 in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines suppresses the growth of cancer cells.

Description:
PCGF1 is a component of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein BCOR complex, a complex required to maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of some genes, such as BCL6 and the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, CDKN1A. It represses CDKN1A expression by binding to its promoter, and this repression is dependent on the retinoic acid response element (RARE element). PCGF1 als promotes cell cycle progression and also enhances cell proliferation, thus it may have a positive role in tumor cell growth.

Description:
The 53-7.3 monoclonal antibody is specific for mouse CD5, a 67 kDa protein that is expressed on most thymocytes, mature T cells and the B-1 subset of B cells. CD5 is a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich protein superfamily and is a ligand for the c-type lectin CD72. CD5 is also known as Leu-1 and functions to modulate antigen receptor signaling on T and B cells.

Description:
Acts as a transcriptional activator or repressor. Involved in embryonic lens fiber cell development. Recruits the transcriptional coactivators CREBBP and/or EP300 to crystallin promoters leading to up-regulation of crystallin gene during lens fiber cell differentiation. Activates the expression of IL4 in T helper 2 (Th2) cells. Increases T-cell susceptibility to apoptosis by interacting with MYB and decreasing BCL2 expression. Together with PAX6, transactivates strongly the glucagon gene promoter through the G1 element. Activates transcription of the CD13 proximal promoter in endothelial cells. Represses transcription of the CD13 promoter in early stages of myelopoiesis by affecting the ETS1 and MYB cooperative interaction. Involved in the initial chondrocyte terminal differentiation and the disappearance of hypertrophic chondrocytes during endochondral bone development. Binds to the sequence 5'-[GT]G[GC]N[GT]NCTCAGNN-3' in the L7 promoter. Binds to the T-MARE (Maf response element) sites of lens-specific alpha- and beta-crystallin gene promoters. Binds element G1 on the glucagon promoter. Binds an AT-rich region adjacent to the TGC motif (atypical Maf response element) in the CD13 proximal promoter in endothelial cells (By similarity). When overexpressed, represses anti-oxidant response element (ARE)-mediated transcription. Involved either as an oncogene or as a tumor suppressor, depending on the cell context. Binds to the ARE sites of detoxifying enzyme gene promoters.

Description:
Axotrophin is a stem cell gene that encodes a protein which is involved in T lymphocyte regulation (especially in regulating the proliferation) and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) release. LIF is a neuropoietic cytokine that is important for stem cell regulation and thymocyte stimulation. Both Axotrophin and LIF are linked to transplantation intolerance. Axotrophin is also involved in corpus callosum differentiation and may play a role in glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF)-dependent sensory neuron survival in the substantia gelatinosa of the adult spinal cord. Axotrophin is primarily expressed in the hippocampus, cortex, purkinje and granule cells of the cerebellum.
