Recognizes a single protein of 33-34 kDa, identified as the prostate specific antigen (PSA). This MAb is highly specific to PSA and stains prostatic secretory and ductal epithelium in both normal and neoplastic tissues. PSA is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease (kallikrein family) exclusively produced by the prostate epithelium, and abundant in seminal fluid. PSA can be detected in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma. It is predominantly complexed to a liver-derived serine protease inhibitor, alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of serum PSA is complexed to ACT in prostate cancer than in benign prostate hyperplasia.

CHRDL2 is a novel chordin like protein that can act as a BMP antagonist. Amember of the chordin family of proteins, it contains a signal peptide andthree CR (cysteine-rich repeat) domains. When expressed as a recombinantprotein it is secreted and binds to activin A, but not to BMP-2, -4, -6. Differential expression has been detected in developing chondrocytes, myoblasts, osteoblasts, and osteoarthritic joints. Complex alternative splicing of CHRDL2 potentially results in distinct isoforms that differ at their C termini, in the expression of signal peptide, and in the content of CR domains. CHRDL2 was originally characterized as a novel protein exclusively expressed in breast, lung, and colon tumors.

Lack of HOXA5 expression strongly correlates with methylation of its promoter region, suggesting a causal role for methylation in the silencing of HOXA5 gene expression. HOXA5 expression is an important step in tumorigenesis and loss of expression of p53 in human breast cancer may be primarily due to lack of expression of HOXA5.

It is a member of the secretoglobin gene family and forms a heterodimer with lipophilin B. It has been suggested that mammaglobin may be a useful marker for breast cancer clinical research. Studies investigating the detection of mRNA by RT PCR from circulating carcinoma cells in the peripheral blood of breast cancer patients have shown that mammaglobin is a highly specific marker and correlates with several prognostic factors, such as lymph node involvement.

The small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family of proteins contains various proteins such as Decorin, Biglycan, Fibromodulin, Keratocan, Lumican, Osteoadherin and Osteoglycin. These proteins all have similar functions as they all mediate extracellular matrix organization and act as binding partners of TGF beta. Osteoglycin, which also may be designated osteoinductive factor (OIF), is a secreted protein detected in bone tissues. Hemogen is a nuclear protein that is expressed in hematopoietic precursor cells and can be detected in CD34+ and K-562 leukemia cell line. The protein arginine deiminase (PAD) family of proteins, often referred to as peptidylarginine deiminases, catalyze the deimination of arginine residues of proteins. In the presence of calcium, the proteins in the PAD family act as catalysts for the posttranslational modification reaction that converts methylarginine to citrulline. The PAD proteins are cytoplasmic proteins primarily detected in eosinophils and neutrophils. The only tissue that contains all four forms of PAD (PADI1-4) is epidermis.
