Description:   Transcription regulator of hematopoietic cell differentiation. Binds gamma-satellite DNA. Binds with higher affinity to gamma satellite A. Plays a role in the development of lymphocytes, B- and T-cells. Binds and activates the enhancer (delta-A element) of the CD3-delta gene. Repressor of the TDT (terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase) gene during thymocyte differentiation. Regulates transcription through association with both HDAC-dependent and HDAC-independent complexes. Targets the 2 chromatin-remodeling complexes, NuRD and BAF (SWI/SNF), in a single complex (PYR complex), to the beta-globin locus in adult erythrocytes. Increases normal apoptosis in adult erythroid cells. Confers early temporal competence to retinal progenitor cells (RPCs).Tissue specificity:Abundantly expressed in thymus, spleen and peripheral blood Leukocytes and lymph nodes. Lower expression in bone marrow and small intestine.

Description:   The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins that contain multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some of the members are active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost or perhaps never acquired this inhibitory activity. There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily, including the type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins and the kininogens. The type 2 cystatin proteins are a class of cysteine proteinase inhibitors found in a variety of human fluids and secretions. Expression of the protein has been observed in various human cancer cell lines established from malignant tumors.

Description:   Thimet oligopeptidase, also designated soluble metallo-endopeptidase, is a cytoplasmic protein belonging to the peptidase M3 family. The gene for the protein maps against chromosome 19q13.3. Thimet oligopeptidase can degrade the b-Amyloid precursor protein and generate amyloidogenic fragments. It is important in cytoplasmic peptide degradation and involved in metabolism of neuropeptides that are less than 20 amino acids in length. Thimet oligopeptidase is highly expressed in testis but can also be detected in liver, lung and kidney.

Description:   The coiled-coil domain is a structural motif found in proteins that are involved in a diverse array of biological functions such as the regulation of gene expression, cell division, membrane fusion and drug extrusion and delivery. CCDC34 (coiled-coil domain containing 34), also known as Renal carcinoma antigen NY-REN-41, is a 373 amino acid protein that is expressed in testis, breast, lung, placenta, liver and small intestine. A translocation between the short arms of chromosomes 11 and 18 affecting the CCDC34 gene has been identified in a patient with hamartoma of the retinal pigment epithelium. There are two isoforms of CCDC34 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:   Glutamate receptors mediate most excitatory neurotransmission in the brain and play an important role in neural plasticity, neural development and neurodegeneration. Ionotropic glutamate receptors are categorized into NMDA receptors and kainate/AMPA receptors, both of which contain glutamate-gated, cation-specific ion channels. Kainate/AMPA receptors are co-localized with NMDA receptors in many synapses and consist of seven structurally related subunits designated GluR-1 to -7. The kainate/AMPA receptors are primarily responsible for the fast excitatory neuro-transmission by glutamate, whereas the NMDA receptors are functionally characterized by a slow kinetic and a high permeability for Ca2+ ions. The NMDA receptors consist of five subunits: epsilion 1, 2, 3, 4 and one zeta subunit. The zeta subunit is expressed throughout the brainstem, whereas the four epsilon subunits display limited distribution.

Description:   The Vang family of proteins are integral membrane proteins that are homologues of the Drosophila tissue polarity gene strabismus. The gene encoding for Van Gogh-like protein 1 (Vangl1), also designated Strabismus 2 (STB2), localizes to human chromosome 1p11-p13.1. Van Gogh-like protein 2 (Vangl2), also designated Strabismus 1 (STB1), localizes to chromosome 1q22-q23. Vangl1 is expressed primarily in testis and ovary, but is also expressed in gastric and pancreatic cancer. Vangl proteins play a key developmental role in establishing planar cell polarity (PCP) and in regulating convergent extension (CE) movements during embryogenesis. Vangl1 and Vangl2 are both downregulated in several cancer cell lines and primary tumors.

Description:   APLP2 is a human sperm membrane protein which contains a segment with high homology to the transmembrane-cytoplasmic domains of APP found in brain plaques of Alzheimer disease patients. The human amyloid precursor-like protein APLP2 is a highly conserved homolog of a sequence-specific DNA-binding mouse protein with an important function in the cell cycle. The gene which encodes APLP2 maps to human chromosome 11q24.May play a role in the regulation of hemostasis. The soluble form may have inhibitory properties towards coagulation factors. May interact with cellular G-protein signaling pathways. May bind to the DNA 5'-GTCACATG-3'(CDEI box). Inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasmin, factor XIA and plasma and glandular kallikrein.

Description:   GAD-65 and GAD-67, glutamate decarboxylases, function to catalyze the production of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). In the central nervous system GABA functions as the main inhibitory transmitter by increasing a Cl- conductance that inhibits neuronal firing. GABA has been shown to activate both ionotropic (GABAA) and metabotropic (GABAB) receptors as well as a third class of receptors called GABAC. Both GABAA and GABAC are ligand-gated ion channels, however, they are structurally and functionally distinct. Members of the GABAA receptor family include GABAA R alpha 1-6, GABAA R beta 1-3, GABAA R gamma 1-3, GABAA R gamma , GABAA R delta. The GABAB family is composed of GABAB R1 alpha and GABAB R1 beta. GABA transporters have also been identified and include GABA T-1, GABA T-2 and GABA T-3 (also designated GAT-1, -2, and -3). The GABA transporters function to terminate GABA action.
