Description:
Fibrinogen-like 1 is a member of the fibrinogen family. This protein is homologous to the carboxy terminus of the fibrinogen beta- and gamma- subunits which contains the four conserved cysteines of fibrinogens and fibrinogen related proteins. However, this protein lacks the platelet-binding site, cross-linking region and a thrombin-sensitive site which are necessary for fibrin clot formation. This protein may play a role in the development of hepatocellular carcinomas. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein exist for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description:
ADAMTS10 is a member of the ADAMs family of proteinases with Thrombospondin motifs. The catalytic site of ADAMTS10 is typical of the metalloproteinase catalytic domains, with an HExxHxxxxxH sequence, perhaps giving these enzymes some shared specificity. ADAMTS10 is closest in homology to ADAMTS6, sharing 53% overall identity. Functional mutations in ADAMTS10 have been linked to Weill Marchesani syndrome, a connective tissue disorder marked by fibrillin 1 misprocessing. ADAMTS10 has also been reported to be over expressed in breast cancer tissues and cell lines.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is constitutively tyrosine phosphorylated in hematopoietic progenitors isolated from chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients in the chronic phase. It may be a critical substrate for p210(bcr/abl), a chimeric protein whose presence is associated with CML. This encoded protein binds p120 (RasGAP) from CML cells. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Description:
Galactose Mutarotase is a member of the aldose epimerase family and is involved in hexose metabolism. Through its catalytic activity, Galactose Mutarotase converts beta-aldose to alpha-aldose on several sugars, including D-glucose, L-arabinose and D-xylose. Found in the cytoplasm of most cells, Galactose Mutarotase plays a key role in galactose metabolism by catalyzing the conversion of beta-D-galactose to alpha-D-galactose. The enzyme contains two residues, Glu 304 and His 170, that are critical for catalysis, as well as His 96 and Asp 243, which are important for proper substrate recognition by the active site. No known diseases have been associated with mutations in the Galactose Mutarotase gene, although inhibition of Galactose Mutarotase activity could potentially be associated with a build-up of unmetabolized sugars during metabolism.

Displays cellular triglyceride lipase activity in liver, increases the levels of intracellular fatty acids derived from the hydrolysis of newly formed triglyceride stores and plays a role in very low-density lipoprotein assembly. Displays serine esterase activity in liver. Deacetylates a variety of arylacetamide substrates, including xenobiotic compounds and procarcinogens, converting them to the primary arylamide compounds and increasing their toxicity.

Description:
LLGL1 is a protein that is similar to a tumor suppressor in Drosophila. The protein is part of a cytoskeletal network and is associated with nonmuscle myosin II heavy chain and a kinase that specifically phosphorylates this protein at serine residues. The gene for LLGL1 is located within the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17. LLGL2 is a protein similar to lethal giant larvae of Drosophila. In fly, the protein's ability to localize cell fate determinants is regulated by the atypical protein kinase C (aPKC). In human, this protein interacts with aPKC-containing complexes and is cortically localized in mitotic cells.

Description:
Acts as a tumor suppressor in many tumor types; induces growth arrest or apoptosis depending on the physiological circumstances and cell type. Involved in cell cycle regulation as a trans-activator that acts to negatively regulate cell division by controlling a set of genes required for this process. One of the activated genes is an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases. Apoptosis induction seems to be mediated either by stimulation of BAX and FAS antigen expression, or by repression of Bcl-2 expression. In cooperation with mitochondrial PPIF is involved in activating oxidative stress-induced necrosis; the function is largely independent of transcription. Induces the transcription of long intergenic non-coding RNA p21 (lincRNA-p21) and lincRNA-Mkln1. LincRNA-p21 participates in TP53-dependent transcriptional repression leading to apoptosis and seem to have to effect on cell-cycle regulation. Implicated in Notch signaling cross-over. Prevents CDK7 kinase activity when associated to CAK complex in response to DNA damage, thus stopping cell cycle progression. Isoform 2 enhances the transactivation activity of isoform 1 from some but not all TP53-inducible promoters. Isoform 4 suppresses transactivation activity and impairs growth suppression mediated by isoform 1. Isoform 7 inhibits isoform 1-mediated apoptosis.

Eph receptor A2 is the receptor for members of the ephrin-A family. It binds to ephrin-A1, -A3, -A4 and -A5. Eph receptor A3 is also a receptor for members of the ephrin-A family. It binds to ephrin-A2, -A3, -A4 and -A5 and is thought to play a role in lymphoid function. Eph receptor A4 is a receptor for members of the ephrin-A family. It binds to ephrin-A1, -A4 and -A5. It binds more poorly to ephrin-A2 and -A3. It may play a role in a signal transduction process involved in hindbrain pattern formation.

Description:
The ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) protein family are structurally and functionally conserved members of the Ras superfamily of regulatory GTP-binding proteins. ARFs influence vesicle trafficking and signal transduction in eukaryotic cells and they play a central role in the maintenance of organelle integrity, assembly of coat proteins and activation of phospholipase D (PC-PLD). ARFRP1 (ADP-ribosylation factor related protein 1), also known as ARP or ARL18, is a 201 amino acid membrane-associated GTPase that localizes to the plasma membrane and the Golgi apparatus and is related to the ARF family of regulatory proteins. Expressed in a variety of tissues, ARFRP1 interacts with SYS1 and is thought to be involved in plasma membrane-related signaling events. ARFRP1 exists as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene which maps to a gene cluster on chromosome 20 that is commonly overexpressed in tumors, suggesting a role for ARFRP1 in carcinogenesis.
