Description:   Crystallins are the major proteins of the vertebrate eye lens, where they maintain the transparency and refractive index of the lens. Crystallins are divided into alpha, beta, and gamma families, and the beta and gamma-crystallins also comprise a superfamily. Crystallins usually contain seven distinctive protein regions, including four homologous motifs, a connecting peptide, and N- and C-terminal extensions. gamma-crystallins are structural proteins in the lens, and they exists as monomers which typically lack connecting peptides and terminal extensions. The gamma-crystallins include seven closely related gamma A, gamma B, gamma C, gamma D, gamma E, gamma F, and gamma G-crystallin, as well as the gamma N and gamma S-crystallin genes. Description:   Many growth factors function by binding receptors with intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity (1,2). Signaling by such receptors involves a series of intermediates characterized by SH2 domains that bind tyrosine phosphorylated receptors by a direct interaction between the SH2 domain and the phosphotyrosine-containing receptor sequences (3,4). Description:   PIST (PDZ protein interacting specifically with TC10), also known as GOPC (golgi associated PDZ and coiled-coil motif containing), CAL or FIG, is a 462 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm, as well as to the membrane of the golgi apparatus and to the cell junction. Expressed ubiquitously and containing one PDZ (DHR) domain, PIST functions as a homooligomer that interacts with a variety of proteins and plays a role in intracellular protein trafficking and degradation. Additionally, PIST is thought to regulate ionic currents via membrane channel modification and may also play a role in autophagy. Chromosomal aberrations in the gene encoding PIST are found in glioblastoma multiform (GBM), a common and aggressive form of brain tumor, suggesting a role for mutated PIST in carcinogenesis. Three isoforms of PIST exist due to alternative splicing events.
