Description:
Barrier-to-autointegration factor (BAF) binds non-specifically to double stranded DNA, possibly to play a role in tissue- or cell type-specific gene expression by interacting with different homeodomain transcription factors. BAF compresses chromatin structure and interacts with the LEM domain of nuclear proteins to play a crucial role in membrane recruitment and chromatin decondensation during nuclear assembly. Additionally, retroviruses like HIV-1 incorporate BAF from host cells into preintegration complexes (PICs) to prevent autointegration of retroviral DNA and thereby promote integration of retroviral DNA into the host chromosome.

Description:
BIVM (for basic, immunoglobulin like variable motif containing) refers to a recently identified gene product that maps to human chromosome 13q32-q33 and is predicted to encode a 503 amino acid protein. BIVM shows ubiquitous expression in normal human tissue and the presence of a 5' CpG island suggests it is a housekeeping gene. BIVM is likely essential for some aspect of basic cellular function. BIVM is highly charged and localizes to the cytoplasm and nucleus where it may bind to either DNA or RNA or associate with other cellular proteins. Significant sequence homology exists with many organisms.

Description:
The Six proteins (sine oculis) are a family of homeodomain transcription factors that share a conserved DNA binding domain. Six2, Six4 (AREC3) and Six5 bind to the same DNA sequence, indicating that they may regulate the same target genes. Six1 and Six4 are both capable of transactivating MEF3 site containing reporter genes, such as myogenin. It has been demonstrated that alterations to homeobox-containing genes may result in cancer. Six1 expression has been shown to be absent or low in normal adult tissues, although it is expressed in several tumour types, including breast carcinoma. Six1 overexpression has been shown to abrogate the G2 cell cycle checkpoint. Six2 is highly expressed in fetal tissues but expression is limited in adult tissues.

Description:
TNNI3K, also known as CARK, is a 936 amino acid serine/threonine-protein kinase that is highly expressed in heart. Overexpression of TNNI3K leads to improved cardiac function by enhancing beating frequency and increasing contractile force and epinephrine response. TNNI3K suppresses phosphorylation of cardiac troponin I and p38/JNK-mediated apoptosis, therefore protecting the myocardium from ischemic injury. Administration of TNNI3K to mice with myocardial infarction improves cardiac performance and attentuates ventricular remodeling, suggesting that TNNI3K could be a promising target in the treatment of cardiac diseases. There are four isoforms of TNNI3K that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:
This gene encodes a protein that may modulate the transcriptional repression activities of death-associated protein 6 (DAXX), which interacts with histone deacetylase, core histones, and other histone-associated proteins. In mouse, the encoded protein binds to the putative leucine zipper domain of macroH2A1.2, a variant H2A histone that is enriched on inactivated X chromosomes. The BTB/POZ domain of this protein has been shown in other proteins to mediate transcriptional repression and to interact with components of histone deacetylase co-repressor complexes. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.

Isoform 1: Functions as a co-chaperone for CCT in the assembly of heterotrimeric G protein complexes, facilitates the assembly of both Gbeta-Ggamma and RGS-Gbeta5 heterodimers. Isoform 2: Acts as a negative regulator of heterotrimeric G proteins assembly by trapping the preloaded G beta subunits inside the CCT chaperonin.

Description:
Metalloproteinase inhibitor that functions by forming one to one complexes with target metalloproteinases, such as collagenases, and irreversibly inactivates them by binding to their catalytic zinc cofactor. Acts on MMP1, MMP2, MMP3, MMP7, MMP8, MMP9, MMP1, MMP11, MMP12, MMP13 and MMP16. Does not act on MMP14. Also functions as a growth factor that regulates cell differentiation, migration and cell death and activates cellular signaling cascades via CD63 and ITGB1. Plays a role in integrin signaling. Mediates erythropoiesis in vitro; but, unlike IL3, it is species-specific, stimulating the growth and differentiation of only human and murine erythroid progenitors.

Description:
Cytokeratins, a group comprising at least 29 different proteins, are characteristic of epithelial and trichocytic cells. Cytokeratins 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8 are members of the type II neutral to basic subfamily. Antibody to cytokeratins are specific markers of epithelial cell differentiation and have been widely used as tools in tumor identification and classification. Anti Pan Cytokeratin (mixture) is a broadly reactive reagent, which recognizes epitopes present in most human epithelial tissues. It facilitates typing of normal, metaplastic and neoplastic cells. Synergy between the various components results in staining amplification. This enables identification of cells, which would otherwise be stained only marginally. The mixture may aid in the discrimination of carcinomas and nonepithelial tumors such as sarcomas, lymphomas and neural tumors. It is also useful in detecting micrometastases in lymph nodes, bone marrow and other tissues and for determining the origin of poorly differentiated tumors. There are two types of cytokeratins the acidic type I cytokeratins and the basic or neutral type II cytokeratins. Cytokeratins are usually found in pairs comprising a type I cytokeratin and a type II cytokeratin. Usually the type II cytokeratins are 8kD larger than their type I counterparts.

Description:
The Dumpy-30 (DPY-30) protein was first described in C. elegans, in which it is involved in dosage compensation of sex chromosomes. Conserved from yeast to humans, the DPY-30 family is involved in gene expression and chromatin modification, specifically histone methylation. DPY-30 and closely related proteins contain a short motif that is related to the dimerization motif in the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), which consists of two ?helices that form a four-helix bundle during dimerization. As a member of the DPY-30 family, DYDC1 (DPY30 domain-containing protein 1), also known as DPY30D1 and RSD9, is a 177 amino acid protein that binds to Endophilin III and plays a crucial role during acrosome biogenesis. DYDC1 is specifically expressed in brain and testis and accumulates in the acrosome area during spermatogenesis. Knockdown of DYDC1 mRNA results in disruption of acrosome formation and spermatid differentiation.
