Description:
The RAD23 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is required for excision-repair of UV damaged DNA (1). RAD23 resembles the other DNA repair genes, RAD2, RAD6, RAD7, RAD18, and RAD54, all of which also exhibit increased transcription in response to DNA damage and during meiosis (2). RAD23 encodes a nuclear protein containing a ubiquitin-like domain required for biological function (3). RAD23 bears a ubiquitin-like domain at its amino terminus and this ubiquitin-like domain affects protein function in a nonproteolytic manner (3). Rad23 is a highly conserved protein involved in nucleotide excision repair (NER) that associates with the proteasome via its amino-terminus (4). Its carboxy-terminal ubiquitin-associated domain is evolutionarily conserved from yeast to humans (4). In addition to a role in DNA repair events in yeast, several lines of evidence indicate that the Rad23 protein may regulate the activity of the 26 S proteasome (5).

Description:
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome spanning about 260 million base pairs and making up 8% of the human genome. There are about 3,000 genes on chromosome 1, and considering the great number of genes there are also a large number of diseases associated with chromosome 1. Notably, the rare aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford progeria is associated with the LMNA gene which encodes lamin A. When defective, the LMNA gene product can build up in the nucleus and cause characteristic nuclear blebs. The mechanism of rapidly enhanced aging is unclear and is a topic of continuing exploration. The MUTYH gene is located on chromosome 1 and is partially responsible for familial adenomatous polyposis. Stickler syndrome, Parkinsons, Gaucher disease and Usher syndrome are also associated with chromosome 1. A breakpoint has been identified in 1q which disrupts the DISC1 gene and is linked to schizophrenia. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma. The C1orf63 gene product has been provisionally designated C1orf63 pending further characterization.

Description:
Serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays a central role in centriole duplication. Able to trigger procentriole formation on the surface of the parental centriole cylinder, leading to the recruitment of centriole biogenesis proteins such as SASS6, CENPJ/CPAP, CP110, CEP135 and gamma-tubulin. When overexpressed, it is able to induce centrosome amplification through the simultaneous generation of multiple procentrioles adjoining each parental centriole during S phase. Its central role in centriole replication suggests a posible role in tumorigenesis, centrosome aberrations being frequently observed in tumors. Also involved in trophoblast differentiation by phosphorylating HAND1, leading to disrupt the interaction between HAND1 and MDFIC and activate HAND1. Phosphorylates CDC25C and CHEK2/CHK2.

Description:
Get4 is a 327 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. Get4 forms a multiprotein complex, known as the BAT3 complex, with UBL4A, BAT3 and ARSA. The BAT3 complex plays a role in transporting tail-anchored membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The gene encoding Get4 maps to human chromosome 7p22.3. Human chromosome 7 houses over 1,000 genes, comprises nearly 5% of the human genome and has been linked to Osteogenesis imperfecta, Pendred syndrome, Lissencephaly, Citrullinemia and Shwachman-Diamond syndrome.

Description:
The HIT2 antibody is specific for human CD38, a 45 kD type II transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on thymocytes, activated T and B cells, and monocytes as well as other non-hematopoietic cells. CD38 is an ectoenzyme that functions to catalyze the synthesis and hydrolysis of cyclic ADP-ribose and is involved in cell signaling, regulating cell adhesion, and activation. Additionally, CD38 has been shown to be a prognostic marker for some leukemias and other diseases.

Description:
The BM8.1 antibody is specific for mouse F4/80 antigen, a 125 kDa transmembrane protein widely expressed by members of the mononuclear phagocyte system and considered to be a key marker for mature macrophage cells. F4/80 is differentially expressed during myeloid cell development, and may be regulated by certain cytokines within the tissue microenvironment. Other cell types shown to express this antigen include Langerhans cells, Kupffer cells and dendritic cell subsets. BM8.1 is widely used together with antibodies to CD115 (c-fms), CD11b and CD11c to identify myeloid / macrophage cells by flow cytometry.
