Description:
CTGF belongs to the CCN (CTGF/Cyr61/Cef10/NOVH) protein family, which is comprised of six secreted proteins that reside in the extracellular matrix (ECM). CTGF causes a variety of cellular responses including reduced cell adhesion and enhanced cell migration and proliferation. CTGF has also been shown to be essential for epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process whereby normal functioning cells morph into ones that produce mainly scar tissue (of which collagen in the major protein component).
Description:
Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) is also known as CD279 and PDCD1, is a type I membrane protein and is a member of the extended CD28/CTLA-4 family of T cell regulators. PDCD1 is expressed on the surface of activated T cells, B cells, macrophages, myeloid cells and a subset of thymocytes. PD-1 has two ligands, PD-L1 and PD-L2, which are members of the B7 family. PD-L1 is expressed on almost all murine tumor cell lines, including PA1 myeloma, P815 mastocytoma, and B16 melanoma upon treatment with IFN-V. PD-L2 expression is more restricted and is expressed mainly by DCs and a few tumor lines. PD1 inhibits the T-cell proliferation and production of related cytokines including IL-1, IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-γ by suppressing the activation and transduction of PI3K/AKT pathway. In addition, coligation of PD1 inhibits BCR-mediating signal by dephosphorylating key signal transducer. In vitro, treatment of anti-CD3 stimulated T cells with PD-L1-Ig results in reduced T cell proliferation and IFN-γ secretion. Monoclonal antibodies targeting PD-1 that boost the immune system are being developed for the treatment of cancer.
Description:
Mouse Ifng is a secreted protein which belongs to the type I I (or gamma) interferon family. IFNG is produced by lymphocytes and activated by specific antigens or mitogens. In addition to having antiviral activity, IFNG also has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages and has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells. It can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons. Genetic variation in IFNG is associated with the risk of aplastic anaemia (AA) which is a rare disease in which the reduction of the circulating blood cells results from damage to the stem cell pool in bone marrow. In most patients, the stem cell lesion is caused by an autoimmune attack. T-lymphocytes, activated by an endogenous or exogenous, and most often unknown antigenic stimulus, secrete cytokines, including IFN-gamma, which would in turn be able to suppress haematopoiesis.

Description:
Heat shock protein beta-8 (HSPB8) belongs to the small heat shock protein (HSP20) family. This protein can be inducted by 17-beta-estradiol, and is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and heat, mainly located in the cytoplasm and nucleus. HSPB8 usually exists in monomer, it can interact with HSPB1 and DNAJB6. HSPB8 displays temperature-dependent chaperone activity, appears to be involved in regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, and carcinogenesis, and mutations in this gene have been associated with different neuromuscular diseases, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
Description:
Nucelobindin-2 (NUCB2; Nesfatin-1) was first isolated in adipocytes, but is also expressed by gastric mucosa and pancreatic beta cells. This pattern of nucleobindin-2 expression, as well as the presence of nucelobindin-2 within the plasma of rodents and humans, strongly suggests that this compound may act as a circulating regulatory factor. Nucelobindin-2 is reported to reduce food intake after administration. It is responsible for regulating appetite and production of body fat. Excess nucelobindin-2 in the brain leads to a loss of appetite, lack of nesfatin-1 in the brain leads to an increase of appetite.
Description:
The Notch ligand delta-like protein 4 (DLL4) is expressed highly and selectively within the arterial endothelium and has been shown to function as a ligand for Notch1 and Notch4. It is induced by VEGF as a negative feedback regulator and acts to prevent overexuberant angiogenic sprouting, promoting the timely formation of a well differentiated vascular network. DLL4-Notch1 signalling regulates the formation of appropriate numbers of tip cells to control vessel sprouting and branching in the mouse retina.
Description:
Regenerating protein 2 (Reg2) also known as Lithostathine 2, pancreatic thread protein (PTP2) and pancreatic stone protein 2 (PSP2), is a member of the Reg family of proteins. These small, secreted proteins have been implicated in a range of physiological processes including acting as acute phase reactants, lectins, survival/growth factors for insulin-producing pancreatic beta-cells, neural cells, and epithelial cells of the digestive system. Studies also indicate a role for Reg family members in tumour formation and indicate their potential for use as biomarkers of carcinogenesis. Mouse Reg2 is expressed in regenerating islets and normal exocrine pancreas. Reg2 also stimulates the growth of pancreatic beta cells. Mouse Reg2 belongs to the type II subclass of the Reg family and is the only subclass II Reg protein described.
Description:
Angiotensinogen is involved in maintaining blood pressure and in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension and preeclampsia. Genetic variations in Angiotensinogen are associated with susceptibility to essential hypertension, and can cause renal tubular dysgenesis, a severe disorder of renal tubular development. Defects in the encoding gene have also been associated with non-familial structural atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Description:
Neurotrimin localizes to the cell membrane and contains three Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. Neurotrimin acts as a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored neural cell adhesion molecule. Neurotrimin may promote neurite outgrowth and adhesion via homophilic and heterophilic interactions.
