Description:   The peroxisomal membrane contains several ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, ABCD1–4 that are known to be present in the human peroxisome membrane (1). All four proteins are ABC half-transporters, which dimerize to form an active transporter (1). Description:   Glutamate receptors mediate most excitatory neurotransmission in the brain and play an important role in neural plasticity, neural development and neuro-degeneration. Ionotropic glutamate receptors are categorized into NMDA receptors and kainate/AMPA receptors, both of which contain glutamate-gated, cation-specific ion channels. Kainate/AMPA receptors co-localize with NMDA receptors in many synapses and consist of seven structurally related subunits designated GluR-1 to 7. The kainate/AMPA receptors are primarily responsible for fast excitatory neurotransmission by glutamate, whereas the NMDA receptors exhibit slow kinesis of Ca2+ ions and a high permeability for Ca2+ ions. Description:   Neuromedin U is a neuropeptide with high activity on smooth muscle. It is widely expressed in gastrointestinal systems and central nervous system (CNS). Peripheral activities of neuromedin U include smooth muscle stimulation, ion transport alterations in the gut and the regulation of local blood flow and adrenocortical function. Neuromedin U receptors 1 and 2 (NMUR1 and NMUR2) are multi-pass membrane proteins that belong to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family of proteins. Both NMUR1 and NMUR2 act as receptors for the neuromedin U neuropeptide. NMUR1 is detected in peripheral organs, particularly in urogenital and gastrointestinal systems, with highest levels in testis. Description:   FOXC2 is a member of forkhead/winged helix transcription factor family, whose members serve as key regulators in embryogenesis and cell differentiation (3). FOXC2 functions as a key regulator of adipocyte metabolism by increasing the sensitivity of the beta-adrenergic-cAMP-protein kinase A (PKA) signaling pathway through alteration of adipocyte PKA holoenzyme composition (4). Increased FOXC2 levels, induced by high fat diet, seem to counteract most of the symptoms associated with obesity (4). FOXC2 expression is also associated with the early stage of chondrogenic differentiation both in vivo and in vitro (3). FOXC2 haploinsufficiency results in Lymphedema-distichiasis (LD), an autosomal dominant disorder that classically presents as lymphedema of the limbs, and double rows of eyelashes (distichiasis) (5). Description:   Talin, a multifunctional constituent of cell-substratum attachment sites, is a high molecular weight protein (225-270 kDa) found in variety of tissues and cell types. It is localised at a subset of adherens junctions, specialized cell-cell and cell-matrix associations that are characterised by the presence of filamentous actin at the cytoplasmic face of the junctional complex. In cultured cells, talin is absent from cell-cell junctions and found predominantly at adhesion plaques and in fibrillar streaks underlying cell surface fibronectin. Talin interacts with at least two other proteins that are localised at adhesion plaques, vinculin and integrin. Talin and vinculin have been shown to interact with each other and both have been proposed to be involved in generating the transmembrane connection, between the extracellular matrix and the cytoskeleton, that occurs at adhesion plaques. At physiological ionic strength, talin is an elongate, flexible, monomeric protein with the ability to self-associate into dimers at higher protein concentrations.
