Description: Noggin binds to and antagonizes bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) ligands of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) family. Noggin supports maintenance of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells cultured in mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF)-conditioned medium (Chaturvedi et al.), and promotes dopaminergic differentiation of embryonic stem cells and subsequent survival of dopamine neurons (Chiba et al.). Noggin is essential for development of ectodermal structures including neural tube, tooth, hair follicle, and eye, as well as patterning of mesodermal somites and skeletal structures. It also influences chondrogenesis, osteogenesis, and joint formation (Krause et al.).

Description: HIG1 Antibody: HIG1 and HIG2 (Hypoxia-inducible gene 1 and 2, respectively) are known to be induced by hypoxic conditions. HIG1 is induced by hypoxia and by glucose deprivation in cultured cells. In addition, tumor xenografts derived from human cervical cancer cells display increased expression of HIG1 and HIG2 when they are deprived of oxygen. Unlike HIG2, which is ubiquitously expressed and might be an activator and target of the canonical Wnt pathway, the function and the mechanisms underlying its regulation of HIG1 still remained unknown. The putative link between hypoxia and an oncogenic signaling pathway might play an important role in tumorigenesis.

Description: The PK136 monoclonal antibody is specific for the MouseNK1.1, a receptor from the killer cell lectin-like receptor (KLR) family. Nk1.1 is an antigen encoded by the Klrb1c/NKR-P1C gene expressed by the natural killer cells of some selected strains of mice (C57BL, FVB/N, NZB) and encoded by the Klrb1b/NKR-P1B gene expressed on Swiss NIH and SJL mice. Pk136 binds to an epitoPEcommon to NKR-P1B and NKR-P1C.The Klrb1 is a family of tyPEII transmembrane C-tyPElectin receptors. Klrb1c activates the NK-cell cytotoxicity, while Klrb1b inhibits it. PK136 is useful in defining the NK cells and the rare population of NK-T lymphocytes and specific cultured monocytes.

Description: Basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-basic), also known as FGF-2, is expressed by endothelial cells and is a mediator of angiogenesis. FGF-basic also has cardioprotective functions during heart injury. FGF-basic is a critical component for embryonic stem cell culture systems and is necessary for maintaining cells in an undifferentiated state. Degredation of the full length FGF-basic N-terminus results in a truncated FGF-basic 147aa protein, when the protein is isolated from biological sources. The N-terminus extensions influence the localization of FGF-basic within the cell, but do not affect the biological activity of FGF-basic. Therefore, there are no detectable differences in biological activity between the full length FGF-basic 154aa and the truncated FGF-basic 147aa recombinant proteins.

Description: Iterleukin 7 is a lymphoid cell growth factor that affects pre-B, pro-B, and early T cells. IL-7 was previously known as pre-B cell growth factor and lymphopoietin 1. IL-7 supports the growth of early B cells from long-term lymphoid bone marrow cultures. It is mitogenic to thymocytes and enhances the response of cells to other stimuli such as polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and concanavalin A (ConA). IL-7 stimulates the proliferation of CD4+/CD8+ cells. The proliferative response of thymocytes to IL-7 is not affected by antibodies to the T cell growth factors such as IL-2, IL-4 and IL-6, suggesting that IL-7 is capable of stimulating T cell proliferation through a pathway independent of the known T cell growth factors. Mature T cells respond to IL-7 and Con A, but not to IL-7 alone. In myeloid lineage cells, IL-7 upregulates the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and stimulates the tumoricidal activity of monocytes/macrophages. IL-7 is expressed by adherent stromal cells from various tissues.

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein was isolated as a secreted factor that exhibits a growth-stimulating effect on cultured glial cells. In nervous system, this protein is produced mainly by neurons and may be important for glial cell development. Expression of the mouse homolog of this gene was found to be dependent on Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling. Mice lacking the homolog gene displayed a male-to-female sex reversal phenotype, which suggested a role in testicular embryogenesis.
