Galectin-1 is a member of growing family of evolutionary conserved animal lectins. Galectin-1 is widely expressed in many cells and tissues. Galectins consists of a Galectin domain and two Beta-galactoside binding domains. Galectin-1 can binds LGALS3BP and interacts with CD2, CD3, CD4, CD7, CD43 and CD45. Galectin-1 may act as an autocrine negative growth factor which regulates apoptosis, cell proliferation and cell differentiation. In addition, Galectin-1 plays improtant roles in immunosuppressive and antiinflammatory properties.

Small Glutamine-Rich Tetratricopeptide Repeat-Containing Protein alpha (SGTA) is an ubiquitously expressed protein which belongs to the SGT Family. SGTA contains three TPR Protein-Protein Interaction Duplicates. SGTA is a co-chaperone that binds directly to HSC70 and HSP70 and regulates their ATPase activity. SGTA is capable of interacting with the major nonstructural protein of Parvovirus H-1 and 70-kDa heat shock cognate protein. It interacts with NS1 from Parvovirus H-1, with Vpu and Gag from HIV-1. It also interacts with SARS-CoV Accessory Protein 7a, DNAJC5 and DNAJC5B. However, its function is not known. Since this transcript is expressed ubiquitously in various tissues, SGTA may serve a housekeeping function.

Angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) are closely related secreted ligands which bind with similar affinity to Tie-2. Tie-2 and angiopoietins have been shown to play critical roles in embryogenic angiogenesis and in maintaining the integrity of the adult vasculature. Ang-1 activates Tie-2 signalling on endothelial cells to promote chemotaxis, cell survival, cell sprouting, vessel growth and stabilisation. Ang-2 has been identified as a secreted protein ligand of Tie-2 and has alternatively been reported to be an antagonist for Ang-1 induced Tie-2 signalling as well as an agonist for Tie-2 signalling, depending on the cell context.

Human Interleukin 31 (IL-31) is a cytokine containing a four-helix bundle structure. It shares several structural and functional characteristics with IL-6, Oncostatin M, LIF, and Cardiotrophin-1. Human IL-31 cDNA encodes a 164 amino acid precursor that contains a 23 amino acid signal peptide and a 141 amino acid mature protein. Human and mouse IL-31 share 24% sequence identity in the mature region. IL-31 is mainly associated with activated T cells and is preferentially expressed by type 2 helper T cells (Th2). IL-31 signals via a heterodimeric receptor complex composed of a gp130 related molecule termed IL-31RA (also GPL and GLMR) and an Oncostatin M receptor (OSM R beta ). The IL-31 receptor is constitutively expressed by keratinocytes and upregulated by IFN gamma on monocytes. GPL/OSMR signaling is a strong activator of STAT3 and STAT5, and can also activate STAT1, Jak1, and Jak2 signaling pathways. IL-31 regulated immune responses have been implicated in skin physiology and inflammatory skin diseases. Studies have shown that IL31 induces severe pruritis (itching) and dermatitis in transgenic mice.

Human Chemokine (C-X-C motif) Ligand 7 (CXCL7), also known as neutrophil activating peptide 2 (NAP-2), is a member of the CXC chemokines containing an ELR domain (Glu-Leu-Arg tripeptide motif). Similar to other ELR domain containing CXC chemokines, such as IL-8 and the GRO proteins, CXCL7 binds CXCR2, chemoattracts and activates neutrophils. CXCL7, Connective Tissue Activating Protein III (CTAPIII) and beta thrombogulin ( beta TG), are proteolytically processed carboxylterminal fragments of platelet basic protein (PBP) which is found in the alphagranules of human platelets. Although CTAPIII, beta TG, and PBP represent amino-terminal extended variants of NAP2 and possess the same CXC chemokine domains, these proteins do not exhibit CXCL7/NAP2 activity. CXCL7 induces cell migration through the G-protein-linked receptor CXCR-2.
