Description:
The antiserum is prepared by hyperimmunizing goats with human serum. The resulting antiserum is delipidated and dialyzed into 0.02M sodium phosphate, 0.14M sodium chloride, pH 7.3, with 0.05% sodium azide, adjusted to standard titer, filtered through a 0.22 µm filter, vialed and lyophilized.
The total protein is measured using the Biuret procedure, with bovine albumin as a standard. Antibody titer is standardized with an in-house control by immunoelectrophoresis. Each antiserum is tested for specificity at a minimum of 80 mg/ml using immunoelectrophoresis. It shows reactivity to human serum; cross-reactivity to other species may exist. Reconstitute product with 2.0 ml of deionized or distilled water. Gentle swirling may be used to speed rehydration. Avoid vigorous shaking of the reconstituted material. Store lyophilized product at 2-8°C. Store reconstituted material no longer than 4 weeks at 2-8°C. For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze reconstituted product at -20°C or lower. Warning and Caution: This product contains sodium azide. To prevent formation of toxic vapors, do not mix with strongly acidic solutions. To prevent formation of potentially explosive metallic azides in metal plumbing, always wash into drain with copious quantities of water.

A glycoprotein recovered from the globulin fraction of fresh calf serum by ammonium sulphate fractionation. Fetuin bovine is a protein with the ability to bind to the insulin receptor and inhibit insulin action. Fetuin has been used in studies of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In patients with T2DM, fetuin has been shown to be significantly lower when compared to control patients. Fetuin has also been used in studies to demonstrate its protective role in the development of arterial calcification. Fetuin also contributes to the attachment and spreading of cells in culture medium. Fetuin is a protein containing 12 Cys residues, all involved in disulphide bridges. The composition of bovine fetuin (weight %) is polypeptide 74%, hexose 8,3%, hexosamines 5,5%, and sialic acid 8,7%.
