Sodium thioglycolate is a commonly used reagent for bacteriological research to maintain reducing conditions in media. Thioglycolate can also protect enzymes against inactivation by maintaining protein thiol groups in the reduced state. Thioglycolate medium is frequently used in inflammation research to elicit a neutrophil and macrophage response in vivo.
Thioglycolic acid protects tryptophan in amino acid analysis,and also mediates formation of ATP from ADP. It lowers the oxidation-reduction potential and neutralises mercurial preservatives. An inhibitor of fatty acid oxidation. An agent that prevents the metabolism of fatty acids and stimulates feeding. The sodium salt form is typically used in production of bacteriological culture media.

Description:
The complement system provides innate defense against microbial infection and is a "complement" to antibody mediated immunity. The complement system consists of thirty-five interacting plasma and membrane associated proteins which contribute to host-defense and initiate and amplify inflammation, even in the preimmune state where specific antibodies and lymphocytes are not available. In addition to the complement components themselves, this system also contains several soluble factors that prevent spontaneous complement activation from occurring in solution, as well as, several regulatory membrane associated proteins that protect host cells from accidental complement attack. Cleavage of the C3 component by either the classical pathway or the alternative pathway releases C3a and C3b. C3a appears to be important in many inflammatory responses while the C3b fragment covalently binds to the cell or bacterial surface and plays a role in opsonisation. Binding of C3b to the C4b component of the C3 convertase, results in C5 convertase (C4b3b2a) formation.
The total protein is measured using the Biuret procedure with bovine albumin as the standard; F/P ratio is calculated using absorbance at 491.5nm. Antibody titer of the IgG fraction is standardized with an in-house control by immunoelectrophoresis. The IgG fraction is tested for purity and specificity at 40 mg/mL using immunoelectrophoresis; No trace of albumin is detected. Antibody activity to serum albumin is not present.

Ampicillin sodium salt is a semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin, active as a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is inactivated by beta-lactamases and for this reason a beta-lactamase inhibitor should be considered when using ampicillin. Against gram-positive bacteria, ampicillin has a similar mode of action as benzylpenicillin; against gram-negative bacteria, it has a similar mode of action as chloramphenicol and tetracyclines. In E. coli it inhibits cell wall synthesis.

5-Fluorodeoxyuridine is an antineoplastic agent, which acts as an anti-metabolite. Activators: Papain is activated by cysteine, sulphide, sulphite and more. It is enhanced when heavy metal binding agents such as EDTA are also present. N-bromosuccinimide enhances the activity. Specific inhibitors are AEBSF, antipain, cystatin, E-64, leupeptin, PMSF, TLCK and TPCK.

Product is the lyophilized powder of human IgG and buffer salts. All blood products should be treated as potentially infectious. Source material from which this product was derived was found negative when tested in accordance with current FDA required tests. No known test methods can offer assurance that products derived from human blood will not transmit infectious agents. The total protein is determined using the Biuret procedure, with bovine albumin as the standard. Each vial is overfilled by approximately 5 percent so that a minimum of 500 mg of human IgG is obtained upon reconstitution.
