Description:
Retinoic acid (RA; active metabolite of vitamin A) plays a prominent role in regulating the transition of proliferating precursor cells (such as carcinoma cells and neuronal precursors) to postmitotic differentiated cells (Joshi et al., 2005). The retinoid X receptors (RXRs) family (RXRalpha, beta and gamma), preferentially bind 9-cis-RA and regulate gene transcription by forming heterodimers with a second family of RA receptors. RAs have been suggested to potentially play a therapeutic role in cervical cancer (Abu et al., 2005). RAs are known to play key roles in neuronal development and an increasing body of evidence indicates that retinoid signaling may regulate synaptic plasticity and associated learning and memory behaviors (Lane and Bailey, 2005).

Description:
The NMDA receptor (NMDAR) plays an essential role in memory, neuronal development and it has also been implicated in several disorders of the central nervous system including Alzheimer’s, epilepsy and ischemic neuronal cell death (Grosshans et al., 2002; Wenthold et al., 2003; Carroll and Zukin, 2002). The NMDA receptor is also one of the principal molecular targets for alcohol in the CNS (Lovinger et al., 1989; Alvestad et al., 2003; Snell et al., 1996). The NMDAR is also potentiated by protein phosphorylation (Lu et al., 1999). The rat NMDAR1 (NR1) was the first subunit of the NMDAR to be cloned. The NR1 protein can form NMDA activated channels when expressed in Xenopus oocytes but the currents in such channels are much smaller than those seen in situ. Channels with more physiological characteristics are produced when the NR1 subunit is combined with one or more of the NMDAR2 (NR2 A-D) subunits.

Description:
HHATL Antibody: The Protein-cysteine N-palmitoyltransferase HHAT-like protein (HHATL), also known at the mammalian glycerol uptake/transporter 1 (Gup1) is a homolog of the S. cerevisiae Gup1. It is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane protein that co-localizes with the mammalian hedgehog acyltransferse Skn and interferes with its N-terminal palmitoylation of Sonic hedgehog (SHH), suggesting that HHATL acts as a negative regulator for N-terminal palmitoylation of SHH. HHATL is highly expressed in normal skin, but becomes down-regulated in skin squamous cell carcinoma, suggesting it may play a role in its development.

Description:
Mouse interleukin 13 (mIL-13) is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by activated Th2 cells. IL-13 induces B cell proliferation and immunoglobin production. It contains a four helical bundle with two internal disulfide bonds. Mouse IL13 shares 58% sequence identity with human protein and exhibits cross-species activity. IL13 signals via receptor IL13R (type2, IL4R) and activates STAT-6. IL13 initially binds IL-13R alpha1 with low affinity and triggers association of IL4R alpha, generating a high affinity heterodimeric receptor IL13R and eliciting downstream signals. IL13 also binds IL-13R alpha2 with high affinity, which plays a role in a negative feedback system of IL13 signaling. IL13 is an important mediator of allergic inflammation and disease.

Description:
SLC25A24 is a calcium-dependent mitochondrial solute carrier. Mitochondrial solute carriers shuttle metabolites, nucleotides, and cofactors through the mitochondrial inner membrane. It may act as a ATP-Mg/Pi exchanger that mediates the transport of Mg-ATP in exchange for phosphate, catalyzing the net uptake or efflux of adenine nucleotides into or from the mitochondria.

SLC17A5 is a membrane transporter that exports free sialic acids that have been cleaved off of cell surface lipids and proteins from lysosomes. Mutations in SLC17A5 gene cause sialic acid storage diseases, including infantile sialic acid storage disorder and and Salla disease, an adult form. This gene encodes a membrane transporter that exports free sialic acids that have been cleaved off of cell surface lipids and proteins from lysosomes. Description:
Human Chemokine (C-C Motif) Ligand 23 (CCL23) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. CCL23 is also known as myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor MPIF-1, CK8 and SCYA23. CCL23 cDNA encodes a 120 amino acid residue precursor protein with a putative 21 amino acid residue signal peptide that is cleaved to generate a 99 amino acid residue mature CCL23 (amino acids 22 -120). Additional N-terminal Processing of the 99 amino acid residue variant can generate a 75 amino acid residue peptide (amino acid 46-120) that is significantly more active than the 99 amino acid residue variant. CCL23 binds to CCR1 with high affinity and has chemotactic activity for monocytes, dendritic cells, and osteoclast precursors. CCL23 enhances angiogenesis of endothelial cells, but reduces the proliferation of progenitor cells giving rise to granulocyte and monocyte lineages.
