PIK3AP1 is involved in the activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) in B-cells and in natural killer (NK) cells. Couples B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) to PI3K activation by providing a docking site for the PI3K subunit PIK3R1, which contributes to B-cell development. Seems to have a complementary role with CD19 in PI3K activation (By similarity). May be involved in the survival of mature B cells via activation of REL (By similarity).

TEKT5 Antibody: Tektins are insoluble alpha-helical proteins related to intermediate filament proteins and are essential for the assembly of cilia and flagella. Tektin-5 (TEKT5) is a recently identified member of the Tektin family. It is predominantly expressed in testis, and its expression is upregulated during testis development. It is present in sperm flagella but not in heads, suggesting that it may act as a middle component required for flagellar stability and sperm mobility.

Description:
Crystallins are separated into two classes: taxon-specific, or enzyme, and ubiquitous. The latter class constitutes the major proteins of vertebrate eye lens and maintains the transparency and refractive index of the lens. Since lens central fiber cells lose their nuclei during development, these crystallins are made and then retained throughout life, making them extremely stable proteins. Mammalian lens crystallins are divided into alpha, beta, and gamma families; beta and gamma crystallins are also considered as a superfamily. Alpha and beta families are further divided into acidic and basic groups. Seven protein regions exist in crystallins: four homologous motifs, a connecting peptide, and N- and C-terminal extensions. Gamma-crystallins are a homogeneous group of highly symmetrical, monomeric proteins typically lacking connecting peptides and terminal extensions. They are differentially regulated after early development. This gene encodes a protein initially considered to be a beta-crystallin but the encoded protein is monomeric and has greater sequence similarity to other gamma-crystallins. This gene encodes the most significant gamma-crystallin in adult eye lens tissue. Whether due to aging or mutations in specific genes, gamma-crystallins have been involved in cataract formation.

LHX8 is a member of the LIM homeobox family. Members of this family share common structural features. They all contain 2 tandemly repeated cysteine-rich double-zinc finger motifs, called LIM domains, in addition to a homeodomain. The homeodomain is a DNA-binding domain, and the LIM domains are essential for regulating the activity of these molecules by interacting with other proteins. Members of the family are required for the patterning or the specification and differentiation of different cell types during embryonic development.

The protein encoded by HNF4A is a nuclear transcription factor which binds DNA as a homodimer. The encoded protein controls the expression of several genes, including hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha, a transcription factor which regulates the expression of several hepatic genes. This gene may play a role in development of the liver, kidney, and intestines. Mutations in this gene have been associated with monogenic autosomal dominant non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type I.
