The EBVCS-5 antibody is specific for human CD23, also known as the low affinity IgE receptor (FceRII), a 45 kDa type II transmembrane protein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on most B cells and is upregulated upon activation. It is also present on mantle zone B cells, eosinophils, monocytes and a subset of T cells and platelets. CD23 plays a role in B cell development and differentiation, and also functions to regulate IgE production. Soluble secreted forms of CD23 have been reported to bind IgE, stimulate release of pro-inflammatory cytokines from monocytes, and play a role in B cell differentiation.

Description:
CFDP1 is a 299 amino acid protein that is involved in embryogenesis and normal cell function. When treated with CFDP1 peptide, mouse molar teeth increase in size, whereas treating cells with against CFDP1 shows an increase in the number of apoptotic cells and gradual tooth disintegration. CFDP1 is highly expressed in developing mouse teeth and is expressed at lower levels in liver, lung and heart. The gene encoding CFDP1 maps to human chromsome 16, in a region that has been associated with inherited craniofacial diseases, such as fanconi anemia type A. There are two isoforms of CFDP1 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

This gene is a member of the Src family of protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs). The encoded protein is a key signaling molecule in the selection and maturation of developing T-cells. It contains N-terminal sites for myristylation and palmitylation, a PTK domain, and SH2 and SH3 domains which are involved in mediating protein-protein interactions with phosphotyrosine-containing and proline-rich motifs, respectively. The protein localizes to the plasma membrane and pericentrosomal vesicles, and binds to cell surface receptors, including CD4 and CD8, and other signaling molecules. SRPX2 is a 465 amino acid secreted protein expressed in neurons of the brain, including the rolandic area. It has been suggested that SRPX2 enhances cell motility, migration and adhesion through FAK signaling in gastric and other cancer cells. Localized to the cytoplasm, SRPX2 is a ligand for uPAR (urokinase plasminogen activator), a receptor that is a crucial component of the extracellular plasminogen proteolysis system. SRPX2 may be responsible for rolandic seizures (RSs) associated with oral and speech dyspraxia and mental retardation (MR). The involvement of SRPX2 in these disorders suggests an important role for SRPX2 in the perisylvian region critical for language and cognitive development.

The encoded protein consists of an extracellular domain containing 7 cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic tail that differs from those of the classical cadherins. The gene is located in a major X/Y block of homology and its Y homolog, despite divergence leading to coding region changes, is the most closely related cadherin family member. The protein is thought to play a fundamental role in cell-cell recognition essential for the segmental development and function of the central nervous system. Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the central enzyme in plasma triglyceride hydrolysis and is secreted by macrophages in the subendothelial space. Evidence has been provided that LPL produced by macrophages in the vessel wall exerts proatherogenic effects. The atherogenic effects of LPL have been mainly attributed to its ability to favor lipid accumulation within macrophages present in the atherosclerotic lesion. Recently, it has also been shown that LPL promote the development of atherosclerosis through facilitation of monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells, stimulation of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF ) secretion and induction of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation.

Profilin 1 is a ubiquitous actin monomer-binding protein involved in actin polymerization in response to extracellular signals. Three profilin genes have been identified: profilin 1, 2, and 3. Profilin 1 is the most ubiquitous and abundant, and is highly expressed throughout development and adulthood inmost tissues including brain. Profilin 2 is the neuronal specific isoform and profilin 3 is a testis specific isoform. Profilins of eukaryotic cells are small (12-15 kDa) cytoplasmic proteins that bind to actin monomers, polyphosphoinositides and polymers of L-proline. Profilins were shown to be important for normal cell proliferation, differentiation and motility. Deletion of profilin 1 gene leads to an embryonic lethal phenotype.
