The sense of taste is essential for the survival of organisms. For example, the ability to identify sweet-tasting foods enables animals to seek out food with high nutritive value, whereas the ability to identify bitter substances enables them to avoid the ingestion of potentially harmful substances. A family of integral membrane proteins are involved in taste perception and include T1R, which is involved in sweet taste perception and T2R, which is involved in bitter taste perception. Both types of taste receptors couple to various G proteins to initiate signal transduction cascades. Specifically, T2R50 is expressed in subsets of taste receptor cells of the tongue and exclusively in gustducin-positive cells.

This gene encodes a protein that is expressed at high levels in cardiac and skeletal muscle. Mutations in this gene have been associated with a number of clinical disorders including Barth syndrome, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), hypertrophic DCM, endocardial fibroelastosis, and left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described. A long form and a short form of each of these isoforms is produced; the short form lacks a hydrophobic leader sequence and may exist as a cytoplasmic protein rather than being membrane-bound. Other alternatively spliced transcripts have been described but the full-length nature of all these transcripts is not known.

Reacts with five invariable CD3 chains (designated as and ) with molecular weight ranging from 16-28 kDa. It is found on all mature T-lymphocytes, NK, T-cells, and some thymocytes. CD3, also known as T3, is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that plays a role in antigen recognition, signal transduction, and T cell activation. It is expressed, typically at high levels, on peripheral T cells and majority of T cell neoplasms. Thymocytes express CD3 at different level on the cell surface in the course of differentiation and, in cortical thymus, CD3 is predominantly Intracytoplasmic. This MAb is particularly useful for induction of T cell activation in vitro and in vivo due to its unusual IgG3 isotype.

Voltage-sensitive calcium channels (VSCC) mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and are also involved in a variety of calcium-dependent processes, including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division and cell death. The isoform alpha-1D gives rise to L-type calcium currents. Long-lasting (L-type) calcium channels belong to the 'high-voltage activated' (HVA) group. Description:
Caspase-12 is a member of the ICE/CED-3 family of caspases and is detected as a protein of ~51kDa. Overexpression of caspase-12 in cells induces apoptosis. Capase-12 is localized to the endoplasmatic reticulum (ER) and activated by ER stress and specifically cleaves and activates pro-caspase-9 and is also thought to be involved in the apoptosis induced by viral infection. Caspase-12-deficient mice are resistant to ER stress-induced apoptosis. Caspase-12 is probably expressed in many and perhaps all mouse tissues and is expressed at high levels in skeletal muscle, heart, lung and kidney and at moderate levels in brain and liver. In many humans caspase-12 is a pseudo gene and not expressed.

Neurobeachin, is also a neuron-specific multidomain protein of 327 kDa with a high-affinity binding site for the type II regulatory subunit of protein kinase A. Neurobeachin is peripherally associated with pleomorphic tubulovesicular endomembranes near the trans sides of Golgi stacks and throughout the cell body and cell processes. Velis contain the PDZ motif involved in recruiting cell adhesion molecules, receptors, and channels. Veli1 (also designated Lin-7A and MALS-1), Veli2 (also designated Lin-7B and MALS-2), and Veli3 (also designated Lin-7C and MALS-3) are mammalian homologs of C. elegans LIN-7. Veli proteins are ubiquitously expressed with high expression in brain, liver, and testis. Velis are localized at the synaptic junctions in neurons. Velis bind to CASK, a neurexin-binding protein highly concentrated in synapses, and Mint1, a binding partner with a vesicle trafficking protein.
