Description:   CNDP1 (Carnosine dipeptidase 1) belongs to the M20 metalloprotease family and is expressed in the adult nervous central system. It catalyzes preferential hydrolysis of the beta-Ala-|-His dipeptide (carnosine), and also anserine, Xaa-|-His dipeptides and other dipeptides including homocarnosine.

Description:   Receptor for GABA. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G-proteins that inhibit adenylyl cyclase activity, stimulates phospholipase A2, activates potassium channels, inactivates voltage-dependent calcium-channels and modulates inositol phospholipids hydrolysis. Plays a critical role in the fine-tuning of inhibitory synaptic transmission. Pre-synaptic GABA-B-R inhibit neurotransmitter release by down-regulating high-voltage activated calcium channels, whereas postsynaptic GABA-B-R decrease neuronal excitability by activating a prominent inwardly rectifying potassium (Kir) conductance that underlies the late inhibitory postsynaptic potentials. Not only implicated in synaptic inhibition but also in hippocampal long-term potentiation, slow wave sleep, muscle relaxation and antinociception.

Description:   The multi-pass membrane protein encoded by this gene belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family and GABA-B receptor subfamily. The GABA-B receptors inhibit neuronal activity through G protein-coupled second-messenger systems, which regulate the release of neurotransmitters, and the activity of ion channels and adenylyl cyclase. This receptor subunit forms an active heterodimeric complex with GABA-B receptor subunit 1, neither of which is effective on its own. Allelic variants of this gene have been associated with nicotine dependence.[provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010].

Description:   Vgl-2, also known as VITO-1, is a 317 amino acid protein that contains a domain through which it interacts with TEF-1, a protein that plays a role in controlling the expression of numerous genes. Specific to skeletal muscle, Vgl-2 is expressed highly in adult fast muscle and is expressed at lower levels in adult slow muscle and fetal skeletal muscle. During muscle differentiation, Vgl-2 mRNA levels increase and Vgl-2 translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Overexpression of Vgl-2 in MYOD-transfected 10T1/2 mouse embryonic fibroblasts increases expression of myosin heavy chain (MHC), which is a marker of terminal muscle differentiation. This evidence suggests that Vgl-2 is essential for muscle gene expression. There are two isoforms of Vgl-2 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:   May play an important role during the embryonic development and differentiation of the central nervous system. Human NEDD1 localises to the centrosome and mitotic spindle. It binds to the components of the gamma-tubulin ring complex and target this complex to the centrosome and spindle.

Description:   Rim4 (Rab 3 interacting molecule 4), also known as Rim4 or regulating synaptic membrane exocytosis protein 4, is a 269 amino acid protein that localizes to the cell junction and regulates synaptic membrane exocytosis.Rab 3, a neural/neuroendocrine-specific member of the Rab family, is involved in Ca2+-regulated exocytosis. Rab 3 functions in an inhibitory capacity by controlling the recruitment of secretory vesicles into a releasable pool at the plasma membrane. Rim (Rab 3 interacting molecule), a putative effector protein for Rab 3 proteins, is thought to regulate neutrotransmitter release through its interaction with Rab 3 and other synaptic proteins.

Description:   Cardiac muscle myosin is a hexamer consisting of two heavy chain subunits, two light chain subunits, and two regulatory subunits. This gene encodes the alpha heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin. The gene is located 4 kb downstream of the gene encoding the beta heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin. Mutations in this gene cause familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial septal defect 3.

Description:   GARNL1 is expressed during embryogenesis with E12. During development, GARNL1 expression decreases, persisting at high levels only in neurons of the adult brain. GARNL1 localizes to the cytoplasm where it may play a role regulating GTP hydrolysis of proteins such as Ran and Rap. GARNL1 is imported to the nucleus via dimerization with E12. GARNL1 interacts with the HLH region of E12 and may function to negatively regulate the transcription of E12-dependent downstream target genes. This suggests that at least a portion of the function of GARNL1 is dependent upon its association with E12. GARNL1 may also associate with other HLH proteins and influence a variety of HLH signaling cascades. In adult brain, GARNL1 activity does not involve E12 and therefore it may serve a different function in developed neural tissue.

Description:   Human Rad1 is a component of a heterotrimeric PCNA like complex that also contains the Rad9 and Hus1 proteins. This complex is believed to be involved in cellular responses to DNA damage, possibly by associating with Rad17 and several components of the PCNA-loading heteropentamer, replication factor C. Human Rad1 exhibits significant homology to Rad1 from S. pombe, and its expression in yeast rad1 mutants has been shown to partially restore radiation resistance and G2 checkpoint activity. It has also been shown to possess exonuclease activity.

Description:   The complement factor C3 consists of an alpha and a beta chain. C3 is a central factor in the complement cascade. It is central to the alternative pathway that leads to the C3 convertase C3bBb. The classical mannose binding lectin activation pathway leads to the C3 convertase C4b2a. These convertases cleave C3 resulting in C3a and C3b. Further degradation leads to the formation of the alpha chain products C3d, C3g and C3c. C3 is an acute phase protein that is produced by a wide range of tissues, including renal epithelial cells and hepatocytes.
